Baby steps

When taking over the world it is important to use baby steps. Take it one nation at a time, don't fight wars on more than one front, and never call for unconditional surrender.

The first step in conquest (well, okay, the second step, getting troops comes first) is conquest. And to take over your first nation you need to plot what the troops are going to do ahead of time. I'd suggest sending a heavily armored strike force in to take over the capitol of whatever country you want, and then force the ruling body to surrender. This means you must strike in the middle of the day. I would suggest just after lunch, when people are ready to relax a little bit. Use helicopters to strike defensive forces before they can mobilize, and send your infantry down the main route. Avoid opening fire until right outside the main buildings, to keep the element of surprise. Once the infantry have secured the buildings, march in and demand a surrender. It is best to have one planed out that offer major benefits to those who are already in power. Get the surrender signed ASAP before the nation can bring it's full military forces to bear and squish your forces.

The key thing to remember in this is planning and surprise. Maintain radio silence until well into the assault, disguise troop carriers and other vehicles, and fly the helicopters in at a low altitude so that they won't show up on radar. It may also be helpful (if they are ex-civilian) to paint them like news choppers. For planning, have preformed recon on all of the targets in advance and designated corridors of attack and movement. Have at least three back up plans and then figure out what can go wrong and add a plan for that. And at all times, remember Murphy's Law: no plan survives contact with the enemy
