in the last entry I explained an overview of how to conquer the world. This time I am going to discuss the makeup of the military forces necessary.
in order to conquer, you must first have a cadre of highly trained and loyal troops, preferably mechanized infantry with armor and helicopter detachments. Once you have forced a fist world country (like say, Canada) into submission, you use your troops as the basis for a reforming on the army. Build highly trained infantry, and then create helicopter units. This is based on the philosophy that you will eventually have to fight the USA, and by using troops equivalent to what they have is the only way to match them.
Helicopters are ideal for destroying tanks, such as the M1- Abrams, the US tank of choice. Copter' units are also much more versatile than standard aircraft, requiring very little in the way of airstrips that could be destroyed by bombing missions. An additional plus is that you can buy civilian helicopters and arm them and their performance is about the same as with military ones, and the same cannot be said for jets.
Mechanized infantry are fast, maneuverable, and ideal for fighting in a nation with a strang road system. usage of air support to destroy roadblocks that enemies may throw up to stop your troops is a must, and will allow you to drive behind their forces and destroy them in detail. mounting large caliber cannons on heavy vehicles is also an option to create a ground based tank-buster. Also, like Copters', mechanized infantry are cheaper than armored cav. units, and better for occupying conquered ground.
The last thing necessary for the military is the ultimate high ground: space. Launch "crowbar" type kinetic tank busters into orbit and you can smash enemy forces from over the horizon. Crowbars are long, reentry-shielded iron bars that use the earth's gravitational field to accelerated themselves to tremendous velocities. Upon striking their target they vaporize, converting almost directly into heat and destroying anything in their path. They can be precision guided, especially if you have ground-based operators watching them. Other orbital mischief can include destruction of enemy communications satellites and battlefield recon.
