Why is it trendy for books to have sad/bitter/disappointing endings? Books are the original form of escapism entertainment. I don't read books to be reminded how bad life sucks. I'm not looking for real-life connections through works of fiction. I have the internet for that (HA!). I rather my books have wispy happy fairy-tale endings just like crappy Hollywood cinema that I avoid. I think I enjoy the sugar-coatedness of books more than movies just because it creates a little world in my head.
Pain doesn't always equal substance. I don't have to cry to realize that a book is heartfelt and sincere. There are thousands of other emotions that you can exploit to impress me. TAKE THAT STEPHANIE MEYER! Your stupid sighs and hugs and sweet moments did not make me hate my fiancee you stupid, fat, Mormon housewife! A wild night in the sack for you is sleeping w/o your sacred undergarments. Which is why all your books lack steamy vampire sex and supernatural violence (hope I didn't ruin it for you!) (Sorry Jen, while entertaining, I think Stephanie Meyer is a god-awful writer, and that could be the publishers rushing or she could just plain suck. Who knows?)
