whew this semester is finally over. It's been hellacious, but surprisingly my grades (so far) don't reflect that. I've got an A+ and a B+ posted. I'm expected another A, and (hopefully) another B. My senior design class is the only grade that's up in the air. I'm sure I've complained about my group, our project and that class, but I just have to reiterate that it SUCKED!! I'm so glad it's over, now I'm just hope he doesn't fail us and make me repeat the class.
I'm taking a special topics summer class on Macromedia FLASH starting Monday. I'm really looking forward to it. I really like CS and programming. I told Mom earlier today that if I had it to do over again that's what I'd study. As is though, I'm fairly certain it's not worth the extra two plus years it'd take to get a degree in CS. So, I'll just take the classes that I can while I'm still here (summer and fall) and then cross my fingers and hope to get a job in web-design and programming.
To that end, I've got an internship/summer job with a small internet service provider. They used to be a small locally owned company but they've recently been bought out by HiWAAY Internet Services. They do a lot of web design work for local businesses. So, I'm really excited to be working there. Granted, they pay is nothing like what I'd get if I were to work in my engineering field, but money's not everything. right?
In other news, Paul had his first spring concert as a band director this week! Despite it being during finals week, I was able to drive the 3.5 hours to be there, and I'm SO glad I did! It was cute and good and I'm so proud of him!
Before the concert, during the PTA meeting, Paul decided to sit down among the students. I don't know why, but this greatly amused me. Perhaps it's the fact that, at 6'6", he is nearly 2 feet taller than them.
4th and 5th grade Beginner Band. As typical, played Ode to Joy, Camptown Races, Twinkle Twinkle, and a cute blues number.
The 6th Grade band won my heart. A sax player and three drummers. Talk about weird and difficult instrumentation... But they were so good! They play two of their pieces from memory. And a great version of Can-Can.
For his 9th grade music appreciation class Paul decided that since performance is part of Music, what better way to appreciate it that to do it. So, he gave them the option of writing a final paper or participating in the spring concert. Surprisingly 5 of them decided they'd rather write the paper
. The played this little drumming/rhythm game he taught in elementary music. But to make a bit mor difficult instead of just having to swap seats, they also had to toss the drums, catch them and get back seated in 4 beats. It was amusing to watch.
And then varisty band. They played a great version of a video game song. It's called Bounty Hunter and it's from the game Advent Rising. But it's a great sounding piece of music. They also played the classic "Devil Went Down to Georgia". The senior saxaphone player played the fiddle parts and did a great job at it! It was REALLY great!
Yes, those are suspenders
. What can I say? My boyfriend is a dork. But he does clean-up nice don't ya think?
