Earthquake!!!
Was innocently sitting on my sofa last night when I noticed my Xmas tree was swaying quite a bit more than was justified. Then realised it was an earthquake, and had that anxious moments wait to discover if it was just a small one or if it was gonna be trouble :-o
Luckily it was quite far away (although large there 6.8), so no damage

I always found it vastly entertaining that I moved from Pacific Rim NZ to the middle of the US..... right on top of about the only fault line for a thousand miles AND one that was massively overdue for a big earthquake :S
Why is it that so many places seem to be overdue for large seismic/volcanic events??! I know we are here - they say there's some stupidly high chance of a devastating earthquake in the next 100 years (which as I'm sure Astro will testify is a very very short period of geological time.....)
Even more freaky is that in a big earthquake all of Christchurch (where I am) will liquify because the whole city sits on alluvial gravels and swamps, and if THAT doesn't get you then the tsunami will - a friend who works in the area has seen the tsunami maps and basically says we're all screwed - there's so little elevation that even a medium tsunami would make it a loooong way inland :-S
hmph, now I feel all doomsdayer-ish! Still, it's fascinating to think about, I just hope never to be part of it....
