Trying to find a little joy in the mundane

Had to pick up Alex today from Roanoke; this is always a long, long journey. Today, however, I decided to concentrate on what might be good about it rather than the standard automotive annoyances. On the trip down, I saw a hawk resting under some trees, waiting for the winds to die down, and a deer gently cropping grass on a hillside. On the trip home, I happened to look upward through the windshield at the 66 junction and was amazed at how beautiful the stars looked. With the massive amount of light pollution here, it's easy to forget how gorgeous a sky can look.

Time to curl up. The lack of insulation makes the apartment rather frigid, but I fortunately have a large supply of blankets.
