Haven't been updating as much lately. I guess I should start by catching you guys up.
We moved out of the crappy apartment in the north side. We were there a total of 6 days. Our lease was supposed to start May 1st but we moved in a few days early and we were gone by May 3rd. Nick felt bad about "screwing" our landlord out of money (even though the place was a dump, we were lied to, and we were 100% justified in leaving) and he asked for half of the money back that we'd already given him for the deposit and the first month's rent. The landlord agreed but asked us to give him a month to get it to us.
The new place in Manlius is amazing. We have been borderline euphoric. We unpacked fairly quickly because we had company coming.
After a few days, we realized we hadn't heard form the landlord. Didn't he want to do a walk-through? I still had the keys to the apartment in my car! Nick called to ask him if he'd do a walk through and sign a promissory note saying he'd refund half our money. He very callously said he'd changed his mind and that he wouldn't be giving us back a dime. We were shocked. He told me to give the keys to the drunk who lived next door to us and I angrily said "no." I didn't know what the drunk would do. What if he told the landlord that he never got them? Then the landlord said we could mail them, but I said I wasn't comfortable with that either and that I'd rather give them to him in person. He said he wouldn't be around until June. We were so shocked and angry. Nick kept bringing up that he told us he'd give us the money. He said it wasn't his fault that we didn't like the neighborhood and we reminded him that we have pictures of the crappy condition of the house. Eventually, he ended the call by saying he needed to think about everything and that he'd call us in 5 days.
Still haven't gotten a call.
I graduated from SU on May 11th. My mom, brother, and best friend Laurie came out for the ceremonies. My Dad came too. Laurie stayed at our place, but my mom and brother opted to stay on campus. Dad got a motel room downtown. We had a wonderful time, but Nick and I were extremely stressed and didn't get much time to rest.
A few days after everyone left Nick and I went home to Ludlow. We spent time with my mom, went to Laurie's graduation (where her guest speaker was Mike Scully!
Watch him here!) and packed up my stuff. I rented a U-haul truck and we filled it up over a couple of days and headed back to Manlius on Monday.
I tried to give our former landlord a call later that week and both his cell and home phone mailboxes were full. How convenient. We've decided to sue him for the full amount we paid him. The problem is, we have to file it in the court offices where he lives -- down in Queens, NY -- and the trial will take place there. We're going to give it a shot. The worst that could happen is we don't get any money back. If that happens, we'll call it an expensive lesson learned and move on. If things hadn't happened the way they did, we wouldn't be so happy in our new place.
My hours at WCNY have dwindled steadily over the past few weeks because more and more of our shows are taking a break for the summer. Right now I'm only on 3 days a week, and soon I'll only have 2. I've applied everywhere and even signed up with a temp agency, but no one's hiring. I can't live off of the pay rate and hours that I'm getting at WCNY. I'm supposed to hear back from a potential job tomorrow. I'm hoping I get the call.
Overall, life has been boring, but pleasantly boring. On days that I'm home alone, I do laundry and clean the house. I love being able to make dinners and try new recipes. (Even Malachi has enjoyed some of my cooking! ^.^) Other than my second job issues, I have no real stresses. Nick is doing well, at his job, and at life in general. We've been getting out and being social more than we have. I'd like to get home again to get more of my stuff, but gas is just too damn expensive right now. By the end of the summer, I'd like to make a trip to Hampton Beach with Nick and Mom. Other than that, my plan is to work and save money.
That's pretty much everything in a nutshell. Hope you're all having a nice summer so far. :)
