Various In Progress, but Not Current, But I do Want to Watch Them, Things
24 (Saw the first season, it was GREAT, but then didn't keep going)
Rescue Me* (I've seen the first 3 or 4 seasons of this and love it- but then I was home one summer during it and didn't want to watch with my daddy cause awkward.)
Stargate Atlantis (I watched a good bit of this at one point in Sci-Fi reruns... but I don't remember where I stopped or anything. I do remember it was good!)
The Golden Girls (Currently through S2, Ep 4- loss of cable has made this difficult. :()
SeaQuest DSV (Watched this when I was younger, would like to see it as a grown up!)
666 Park Avenue* (Watched as aired, really liked, still need to see last 4 episodes before we're all done. Still bummed this got canceled.)
Angel (Started 11/11/2012)(Re-watch with Joe)(Currently through S3, Ep 1)
Babylon 5 (Started 11/28/2013)(Currently through S2, Ep 2)
Haven (Started 12/20/2014)(Currently through S1, Ep 9)
TV I Have Finished Or Stopped Watching in 2017
Luther (Started 1/1/2015)(Finally finished this up! The series started incredibly strongly and the first season was a home run. I found myself less invested in every season after that, unfortunately, and that's why it took me so long to finish. Idris Elba can GET IT though.)
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Started 11/15/2015, Finished 3/25/17)(Mark Watches)(WOW I can't believe I've finished another Star Trek show! Holy cow. This one was definitely my favorite so far. It was sooooo good. Loved most of the characters, adored the serialized arcs they used for storytelling, and appreciated how often this show was willing to "go there" as it were, and make dark, painful choices. All in all, an excellent show.)
Big Little Lies (I am both bummed and appreciative that this was a one season mini-series. IT WAS SO SO SO GOOD. I miss it already. CRY.)
Black Sails (And this series comes to an end. I started it when it started, and ended it when it ended, and it was quite good. PIRATES! It started very strong and ended very strong; lost me some in the middle. But I can recognize it was a strong show all throughout, and I'm glad it ended before that stopped being true.)
American Crime Story: The People Vs OJ Simpson (Started 3/12/17, Finished 5/6/17) (This was exceptionally well done! Amazing show, cast, etc. Told me how much I didn't know about the OJ Simpson case.)
Pitch (SO bummed this was canceled. It was truly excellent.)
Powerless (Bummed this got canceled. It was really finding its stride and super adorable.)
Doctor Who and the Terror of the Autons (5/6/17)(A pretty solid Classic Doctor Who! More engaging than a lot of them.)
Mad Men (Started 1/16/2017, Finished 5/13/2017)(This was pretty amazing from a production standpoint, for sure. Visually stunning and I loved the history weaving through the whole story. The characters were all DEEPLY FLAWED which is both nice and at times frustrating! Overall, very good and thrilled we watched it.)
Star Trek: Voyager (Started 4/10/16, Finished 6/23/17)(Watching w/ Mark Watches)(WOW what a good show! Perhaps not as strong as DS9, but on par with TNG. I love Janeway, the Doctor, and Seven of Nine a great deal. All in all, very good outing for Trek.)
Orphan Black (SOB I DON'T WANT YOU TO LEAVE YOU WONDERFUL SHOW!!!!! Series finale was EVERYTHING I wanted it to be. It was truly magnificent and beautiful. I hope Tatiana Maslany and the rest of the cast get whatever they want next... what an amazing group of talented folks.)
Chewing Gum (Netflix Original Series)(This was clever and cute and weird af. It went off the rails a bit toward the end, which is saying a lot for this show, but overall I enjoyed it!)
Pretty Little Liars (I started this show when it was about halfway through its first season. For a long time it was really amazing, and in the later seasons it did drop in quality a bit, but still very engaging. The friendship of the girls was truly the best part of the show, and the mystery was also great for a long while. The AD saga was more than a bit ridiculous, especially the conclusion, but that's ok.)
Doctor Who: Colony in Space (Oct 7/8)(This was actually pretty good; one of the more solid classic Whos we've seen.)
The Real Ghostbusters (Started 6/23/17. Completed 10/9/17)(This was LONG and nowhere near as fun as I remember from childhood tbh. Still, there are, I'm sure, worse cartoons!)
The O.C. (Started: Unknown, Completed: 10/15/2017)(This took me YEARS despite the fact that I really did enjoy it. I did it all through the Netflix disc queue, all spread out with other stuff. The final season was definitely my favorite I think, but all was solid. The arcs for some characters were truly astounding. Summer Roberts is Queen.)
Star Trek: Enterprise (Started 6/23/17, Completed 10/30/17)(Mark Watches) And with this... I have finished every single episode of Past Star Trek. HOLY MOLY I AM SO PLEASED. A lot of people told me Enterprise wasn't very good, and I was pleasantly surprised. While it definitely had some struggles and some baaaaaaaaad episodes... not really more so than any other Trek. Just fewer seasons, so more noticeable. And it was the end of something important... until it wasn't. Looking forward to starting the current itieration of Trek very soon. :)
Homeland (I guess I technically stopped this last year... got behind on the latest season and am finally acknowledging I'm not interested in going back and watching. Oh, well.)
House of Cards (Netflix Original Series)(So Kevin Spacey is a fuckhead. Got it. While I AM bummed to stop this show (I really liked it) I'll get over it and not support someone who sexually assaulted a minor.)
The Bletchley Circle (Started 10/16/17, Completed 10/31/17)(This was fairly solid- I loved the ladies just taking charge of everything. I was less into the mysteries of it all. Still happy to have seen!)
Bomb Girls (Started 11/7/17, Completed 11/25/17)(REALLY enjoyed this a ton! Loved the characters, most of the plots were excellent, and it was just a delight.)
Movies Watched in 2017
The Nut Job (Jan 6)(Eh, this was alright. Nothing fantastic, nothing terrible.)
Save the Last Dance (Re-Watch)(Jan 8)(Gotta admit, still really enjoyed this movie many years later!)
Hidden Figures (Jan 15)(Oh, this was WONDERFUL!!!! Great first theater movie of the year. Fascinating, uplifting, and best yet- true story!!! I'll have to read the book soon. Cast was top notch. It was just all amazing.)
Lee Daniel's The Butler (Jan 20/21)(This didn't grab me as much as I'd hoped. It was very well cast and well acted, but I think the story was a bit too muddled. Perhaps trying to do too much, even though I totally get the concept of following one Black man, who worked for POTUS, from relative beginning of civil rights era through to Obama's election, and seeing him try to balance his family life and his work life.)
Kubo and the Two Strings (Jan 21)(This was really good and creative and very cool and unique. WHY on earth it was voiced by white actors is BEYOND ME, as it had nothing to do with being a white people story. Ugh, whitewashing.)
Star Trek: Insurrection (Feb 4)(Not bad! Not my favorite of the Trek movies, but certainly enjoyable to be back with the TNG gang. I wish these movies would make much better use of Gates McFadden and Mirna Sirtis, though... they always end up underutilized in the TNG films. Sigh.)
The Amazing Spiderman (Feb 19)(This was fairly good- WAY too long, and it rehashed the usual origin story. I know it's hard to do a new Spidey franchise without that, but still. Bah.)
Arrival (Feb 24)(This was VERY well done and definitely not your typical alien invasion movie. What I loved about it was that is showed a PEACEFUL response, at leat in part, to aliens landing. I'm still not sure how I felt about the ending. Definitely left me with a lot more thoughts than an average alien invasion movie, as well.)
The Boss (March 4)(I thought this was hilarious. It's raunchy, yes, but I love Melissa McCarthy!)
Cinderella (2015)(March 4)(re-watch)(I still think they did a stunning job on this live action remake. Absolutely gorgeous and lovely story additions.)
Bridesmaids (March 4)(re-watch)(Stil don't love this one as much as so many people seem to, but liked it better than the first time. Too much embarrassment humor for me.)
The Secret Life of Pets (March 15)(It took us 4 tries to finish this, but it was worth the effort! Super cute movie; very funny and clever.)
Moonlight (March 19)(I don't know if it QUITE lived up to the hype in my head, but it was an exceptional film, well-made and important. A worthy Academy Award Winner.)
Beauty and the Beast (2017)(March 22)(This was really quite lovely. I enjoyed all the additions, enjoyed the imagery quite a lot, and was generally immersed! A couple of things that didn't work as well for me, but mostly- great reimagining.)
Captain Phillips (April 2/3)(This was pretty good, but left me wondering all kinds of things about the Somalia side of this story.)
Galaxy Quest (April 13)(Re-Watch for Mark Watches)(This is a really fun movie, and no doubt more fun now that I've seen so much of Star Trek canon.)
Going in Style (April 21)(VERY clever, fun, enjoyable, and poignant. Thoroughly enjoyed.)
Gaurdians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 (May 14)(This was a lot of fun, and had an awesome soundtrack. Overall good story, as well. Drug a bit at times and could have been shorter, for sure. But I liked the advancement of Peter Quill's story.)
Dirty Dancing (May 27)(Re-Watch)(Girls' Weekend in Lake Lure REQUIRED watching this! SO GREAT.)
The Sweetest Thing (May 27)(Re-Watch)(Only watch with the besties. <3)
Moana (June 23)(Re-Watch)(I LOVE IT SO MUCH)
Wonder Woman (June 24)(THIS WAS EVERYTHING I WANTED AND MAYBE MORE. It was funny, powerful, empowering, poignant, just the right amount of cheesy... it was excellent. I'm so thrilled with it to be honest.)
Girls' Trip (July 22)(OMG FUNNIEST MOVIE IN AGES. I laughed so hard I cried. Good plot and characters, too! Really great movie.)
The Sessions (Aug 17)(My main critique of this movie is that they didn't cast a disabled actor in the primary role. While I understand casting someone who actually lives in an iron lung may have been a bit much, I imagine that there are paralyzed actors out there. Anyway, other than that (which isn't a tiny that)- this was a lovely film, fascinating and sweet. Funny, poignant, and bittersweet. I really enjoyed it.)
Joyful Noise (Aug 18)(This was sweet and the musical parts were really enjoyable. Excellent casting. Weird pacing for the non-music parts of the movie, though!)
Oliver! (Aug 19/26)(Fun! Reminded me of a combo of Pete's Dragon & Bedknobs & Broomstick in some ways. Enjoyed the music a lot. Glad to have seen it.)
Sing! (Aug 26) (Super cute!! Really enjoyed this a lot. Fun plot, fun characters, and super fun singing.)
Star Trek: Nemesis (Sept 1)(Bullshit movie, terrible ending to the TNG movies, ugh ugh ugh. The worst.)
Home Again (Sept 8)(Cute little Reese Witherspoon romcom thing. Adorable, nothing earth shattering.)
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (Sept 19)(This was fine as a movie, but WE WATCHED IT ON A CRUISE SHIP NEXT TO A POOL SO IT WAS AWESOME)
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Sept 22)(Re-watch)(Still an AMAZING MOVIE and EVEN BETTER poolside floating in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico on a BOAT!)
Magic Mike (October 6)(This was fun, but took itself too seriously. It tried too hard. I hear the second one doesn't do that, so I will try it out eventually!)
Young Frankenstein (October 20)(This was fine- since I'm not super familiar with the horror genre, I imagine I missed a lot of jokes.)
Marshall (October 27)(Excellent overall, very well done, DEEPLY UNCOMFORTABLE moments where I was simultaneously furious at the victim blaming tactics in a trial while also cheering for them becaues that white lady used her privilege and fragility to accuse a black man of rape when it was consensual sex and IT WAS AWKWARD. Well acted, important movie, now I need to learn more about Thurgood Marshall.)
Newsies: A Broadway Musical (October 29)(What fun this was! Grateful it was on Netflix as the actual musical it is!)
Star Trek (2009) (Re-Watch)(Mark Watches)(October 30)(This was actually quite well done! I'd seen it before, but without all the historical context of the show I have now. I'm glad to have watched it again, as I could more appreciate how good Karl Urban was as Bones and how powerful Spock's "I am, and always shall be, your friend" was and just generally how incredible the casting really was. The story itself was also fine, and decently in the tradition of Treks through time!
Still Alice (Nov 6)(While not AS strong as the novel, it was a well-done movie and Julianne Moore was particularly phenomenol.)
Thor: Ragnarok (Nov 12)(This was SO FUN! It was heavier on fun than plot, and honestly some of the characterizations seemed off to me, but I had a blast watching it- so I'm counting it as a win.)
Bad Moms (Nov 25)(This was really fun and funny and cute and enjoyable! LOVE Kristen Bell a ton and a half)
Rough Night (Nov 25)(White girls' Girls Trip was awkward af y'all)
Girls' Trip (Nov 25)(Re-watch)(Palate cleanser for Rought Night; I love this movie so much it makes me laugh really hard lol)
Magic Mike XXl (Nov 25)(Still too much plot, not enough stripping... but much less angst than the first, so yay.)
Home for the Holidays (Nov 26)(This was SO VERY 1995, but cute!)
Bridget Jones' Diary (Dec 9)(Re-Watch)(Love it.)
Bridget Jones' Baby (Dec 9)(Re-Watch)(Love it)
Lady Bird (Dec 10)(This was a delight. Such a sweet little movie- I love things that are just little snippets of someone's life with no great quest sometimes. Truly delightful.)
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Dec 15)(Re-Watch)(Annual tree-putting-up movie!)
The Legend of Frosty the Snowman (Dec 15)(This was so terrible we turned it off halfway through. AWFUL.)
Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Dec 17)(While I didn't love this as much as The Force Awakens, I still really enjoyed it, and I appreciate that it threw a lot on its head. The strong female characters and overall representation throughout the film also really elevates it.)
Love Actually (Dec 20)(Re-Watch)(Annual re-watch! This time with girlfriends!)
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (Dec 24)(Re-Watch)(Always delightful)
Home Alone (Dec 24)(Re-watch)(Hadn't seen in YEARS and I still found it hilarious)
Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (Dec 24)(Re-Watch)(Not actually as good when it's immediately following the first one, as they are THE SAME. Heh.)
A Christmas Story (Dec 25)(Re-Watch)(Always excellent!)
The Santa Clause 2 (Dec 25)(Re-Watch)(Have only seen this maybe once before, and it really wasn't bad!)
Miracle on 34th Street (Dec 25)(I had actually never seen this and I really liked it!)
Elf (Dec 25)(Re-Watch)(Love it every year!)
