So much to journal, so little time to type!

I haven't updated Face to Face in ages! I have to get going on that soon -- maybe when school settles down. Yesterday my psych class found out, though NO ONE at Northeastern knew, that we had a 4-6 page report due at midnight yesterday. I finished it at about 8. However, that's an example of what disorganization can do to your life ( Read more... )

"These won't work if you steal them?"

Working on the assumption that Wicca is a sell-out, they won't work anyway. Working on the assumption that it's valid, they most certainly will. Either way, I agree with your BS detector.

I don't see why its existence should bother you, though. I mean, there are Christian stores, and just because I haven't seen any I'll still venture to say that I'd bet there are jewish stores. Why not pagan ones? Paganism is a valid religion whether it's appealing to someone or not.

And by the way, I love you. :D

Ah, yes, but I am Christian, and I do believe in demons trying to corrupt people. Paganism may be valid, i.e. there may be some truth to it, but I strongly don't agree with it.

There's one thing I don't think we'll ever agree on... but at least we still get along. ^_^

There is SUCH a total difference between Paganism as a religion and the kind of "Paganism"/"Wicca" that is marketed in flaky, New-Agey stores. Starting with the fact that neither religions have anything to do with magic"k".

I agree 100% with your BS monitor. It'd be funny if you stole them, but since that's "wrong", how about you steal the sign???? :-D

The sign might blow me up, too...

Trust me, New-Agey "magick" isn't fueled by demons or anything. It just plain doesn't work. So s'all good. :-D

My hotmail is screwed -- I keep not getting LJ comments until about 10 hours after they're posted, if I get them at all.

Sure. What's your number there?

But do you believe that demons try to corrupt people by swaying them from Christianity, or swaying them to Paganism?

Or is it simply the use of magic(k) that irks you?

Swaying them from Christianity.

Actually, the use of magick fascinates me. In a way, I'm almost jealous of the people that use it. Once again: Curse my beliefs, I guess.

Oh yeah, I've been wondering for a while -- how close are you to finishing your story?

Hm, would it be a bad to time to bring up the Old-school Christian beliefs that contained magic?

kitty_hawk October 24 2003, 16:02:49 UTC
Probably not. Which beliefs are you referring to?

That's where my general knowledge ends and the need to research begins. But I know early early on (either pre-dark ages or pre-crusades, not sure which) Christianity incorporated magic on a regular basis.

Nowhere near some of the stuff the pagans claim to be able to do -- Christian stuff. Healing, etc. My knowledge on the topic is chalked up to "fuzzy numbers" at best.

And I have 43k words done, am just over 53% completed.

I don't put any credit in the medieval era of Christianity or some form thereof... There's too much I disagree with. I was hoping you'd cite something from the pre-medieval ages.

53%? Where did you come up with 53%?

I used a calculator. Because I'm a dork? *wibbles* Anyway, what kind of stuff do you disagree with in Midieval Christianity?

And maybe I'll research some pre-med Christianity this weekend if I have the time. I find this all quite fascinating.

Christians killed people who didn't agree with them. (Yes, I realize they did that in the pre-Christ era, also, though they weren't technically "Christians" then...) References: The Crusades, Spanish inquisition, etc. They refused to let people read the Bible in the common tongue and insisted on Latin instead, very hard to read (take it from me -- I know the language =) and insisted on intermediaries (priests) to confess the people's sins for them, imposing a barrier between them and God (also realize they did that int he pre-Christ era).

In general, it more closely resembles pre-Christ than post-Christ thought, and as such I don't consider it "Christian" at all, really...
