Someone who wrote for the cartoon show Futurama loves the Umbrellas of Cherbourg. There is an episode that flashes back to the year 2000, before Fry gets accidentally cryogenically frozen. In the past, he has a dog. Anyway, Fry finds the dog's fossilized body and is about to clone it, when they figure out that the dog was 15 years old when it died, and he changes his mind because he realizes that the dog lived a long time after Fry disappeared into cryogenic storage. He must have had a long, fulfilling life and forgotten Fry. Well, at the end of the episode, they show what really happened: his dog sits outside the pizza place for 12 years, waiting for Fry to come back. They show the dog sitting on the curb, getting older and older, and while snow falls on him in winter, they play the song that is the refrain from the Umbrellas of Cherbourg. It was adorable. Apparently I'm not the only one to practically start crying, either, judging from the comments on the youtube posting:
