I keep coming across one of those cheesy copy-and-paste things that kids post on their social network profiles to make a statement about themselves. This is what it says:
EMOS-
*ARE NOT CRY BABIES
*DO NOT ALWAYS WEAR BLACK
*CAN BE VERY NICE PEOPLE
*DON'T ALWAYS CUT THEMSELVES
*ARE NOT ALWAYS DEPRESSED
*CAN BE HAPPY TO
*ARE NORMAL PEOPLE JUST LIKE YOU
(PUT THIS ON YOUR PROFILE IF YOU AGREE WITH THIS).
First of all, why are you yelling at me? Is your keyboard permanently on caps lock? Did you spill superglue on the Shift key and hold it down so it's stuck that way forever? Typing in all caps is not necessary here. This makes me think that you probably didn't pay attention in English class when the teacher lectured about grammar and punctuation. So, in a state of panic and confusion, you resorted to hitting the caps lock key to hide your ignorance of proper capitalization.
Second, "emo" is not a race or religion. This... copy-and-paste thing makes it seem that way. Like there's a distant undiscovered country called "Emotopia" from where all the emo kids came, and ever since they started moving to America they've dealt with discrimination and racism. Emo is just a style of music and clothing... a label, if you will. People aren't born emo. If you're tired of dealing with people thinking you cry a lot, wear nothing but black, are a sadsack, cut your wrists, and are just plain weird, creating a copy-and-paste thing may form an alliance of 13-year-old girls with crazy pink hair and caked-on eyeliner who say "rawr"; but it isn't going to stop others from making fun of you. So, you might as well just change your style and attitude. Trust me, it wasn't helping you "stand out" or "be your own person" anyway.
