Stirring The Pot (written by Chelidon November 2016)

We, the people (here and now)
11.2016

Now, we are the hands of god
Now, we are the voices of justice
Now, we are all hope for the future
Now, we are the answers to our ancestors prayers

Here and now there is only us,
Here and now, no one else.

No one to depend on, but us
No one to turn to, but us
No one to save us, but us
We are it -
      no more, no less.

You and me
     brother, sister, mother, father
You and me
     neighbor, stranger, pagan, Jew
You and me
     whatever color or creed
here and now, and in the days to come
not a promise, not a faith, but simple truth

No one else at our back, by our sides,
To build the world, tell the stories, carry the load,
Cook the breakfast, teach the children
You and me, here and now

The world is not waiting, or watching, the world does not care
If we keep going in this direction, and no other,
If we fail,
The world will still be here.
And maybe some trees, some animals
Ants, or bees, fish, plankton,
Roaches, bacteria, yeast - something
Certainly the rocks

But maybe we can be more than that
Perhaps a glorious future awaits, beckoning,
Asks us to step out into that sweet, shining possibility
Just out of reach

And the only way we get there,
Is the same way we got here -
One step at a time
One choice at a time
One word at a time
One child at a time

No faith, no heroes, no leader,
no aliens, no government
Can save us now.
It is us, it is only us, it has always been us.

The world whispers,
“Once upon a time…”
The rest is up to us.
