Cat obsessed. Yeah, I think that's the best way to put it. I've known for a long time that I wanted to breed pedigree animals at some point. At first I was seriously considering Border Collies. But after Piper, I know that they have far too much energy and I just wouldn't be able to devote as much time and attention as they deserve. Not to mention, I wanted to breed Piper at first but the stupid bitch I bought him from never sent me the papers she promised. So, because his litters wouldn't be worth much without proof of bloodline, I would have to buy another stud dog with papers. And I just don't want to do that to Piper. He's my precious crazy boy.

So, recently, I've turned my attention to cats. I LOVE cats. I don't feel like myself if I don't have one with me. Life just doesn't feel right. There's always this feeling that something is missing. That warm fuzzy body cuddling up to you on winter nights. That soothing purr and gentle kneading. Those big gorgeous eyes that gaze at you with wisdom and love. *sigh* I MISS having a cat around. But there is no way that I will own another one in this house. This city has tripled in size since I've been here and there is so much traffic on the road outside. I couldn't bear to see another one claimed by the gross, over population of speeding teenagers.

However, it won't be long before Dale and I have our own place. And luckily enough, he shares my enthusiasm for cats as well as my interest in breeding pedigrees. Now, keep in mind I won't be one of those hard-core, cat-show-attending fanatics. At least not at first. =P But there's a chance that I might open a cattery if I really fall in love with breeding cats.

I'm doing tons of research online about breeding animals. The theories and basic concepts of "fine-tuning" a breed or breeding for specific qualities such as color, intelligence, compatibility, etc. It's all very fascinating and makes me so very enthusiastic to get started. It's incredible to think that you can create your own breed of cat that could very well become accepted with associations such as the CFA. =P

At any rate, I'm looking into the CFA's mentor program which is designed to help you every step of the way in becoming a breeder and starting a cattery. And after doing much research on the breeds listed at the CFA homepage, I think I know which breed I want to work with.

Siamese.

There is no cat quite like a Siamese. And they have such a horrible reputation for being unfriendly but it's just not true! If you actually read about the breed, you'll come to find out that the Siamese is actually one of the most intelligent and loyal cats there is. Not to mention there are several "cousin" breeds that have excellent qualities and have become quite popular lately. Such as the Balinese (which looks like a Siamese but with longer fur) and the Javanese (which look like the Balinese but with striping in the mask and extremities).
The Tonkinese (another cousin breed) is apparently extremely "dog-like". They participate in family life, can be leash trained, and even play fetch. =P

But I'm so very taken with the grace and beauty of the traditional Lilac Point Siamese.

Most people are familiar with the Seal Points since they have such a very dark brownish mask and high contrast in their fur coloring. But the Lilac points are almost ethereal in appearance. Their points (mask and extremities) are a pale pink or lavender color giving them a near ghostly appearance which I find quite beautiful. And I just love those huge ears. XD

I just love these cats. =D

Even Dale thinks they're adorable. I've never been one to go for the long haired, squashed face, puff balls. =/ Ick. To me, a cat should be long, lithe, and lean with a long graceful head and long graceful legs. ;) Just beautiful. And those eyes! Sooo blue!

Chocolate Point Kitten

Meh, anyway,.. I know I'm a way off from starting such a big endeavor. But it sure is nice to daydream about. =)

Who knows? Maybe one day I'll be fortunate enough to raise these amazing creatures! And all my friends get discounts! haha!
