SUCCESS!!

today has been a success.

whilst i may not have achieved much on most fronts, i successfully created a special birthday for pots, even if it did begin on rocky ground.

monkey managed to forget it was pots' birthday, and came waltzing into the bedroom at 7am to wake him up, as is part of the boys routine of a weekday. i'm wrestled from my slumber by some sleepy mumbling, and shuffling around on the bed, and it's a few seconds before i realise where i am, and what i'm supposed to be doing!

40 minutes later, freshly percolated coffee, and a special breakfast of bacon, eggs (scrambled), baby truss tomatoes, grilled portobello mushroom, and 2 slices of grilled haloumi, are carefully toddled to the bedroom for pots' birthday breakfast. home made cards are handed over, and a small gift that gives him the chance of a few hours getaway on his own, top it all off.

the kids then head off to school.

i spend the afternoon, while pots is at work, toiling over dinner. i'm tired, and distracted, and finding it difficult to focus on any one thing, but eventually manage to come up with something that works: stuffed chicken thighs (mushroom, lime juice, ginger), cheesy baked potato, oven baked broccoli, cauliflower and peas (in lime juice). it's magic.

cake was never part of the agenda, as we don't really eat it, not even the kids, so i chose something pots would really enjoy - a cheese platter! so, with some sliced baguette loaf, a delicious brie, vintage cheddar, a soft blue, spiced pear paste, ham, and sliced baby truss tomatoes, his birthday dish was ready. jammed a candle into the brie and serenaded him with the birthday song.

100% success, and i still managed to not do everything i was meant to do.

today is a total victory
