I started reading Clive Cussler's Atlantis Found today because I didn't have anything else to read and never actually read it when I was going through my Dirk Pitt phase. It's. Um. Interesting, is probably the best way to put it.

Cussler spends the first chapter talking about a meteor that hits Earth. From the very first sentence (The intruder came from beyond.) I was saddened to realize that like so many things in my life (Knight Rider, Thundercats), Cussler wasn't as awesome as I remembered.

I'm sticking with the book to the bitter end, however, since it contains gems like this: The outer shell, less than forty miles thick, and the mantle that lay over the hot fluid core buckled and twisted, shifting crustal layers like the skin of a grapefruit that had been surgically removed and then neatly replaced so it could move around the core of fruit inside.

Tell me that is not a brilliant piece of writing right there, my friends. I dare you.

don't judge me!, wtf?, rl, book!love
