"Why do you love me?"

“Why do you love me?”

They had been sitting there, completely silent, both sets of eyes glued to the television screen, when out of nowhere, the younger male asked this question. Reita didn’t catch it at first, thinking Ruki was just commenting on the scene playing out in front of them, but the other said it again, louder this time.

“Why do you love me?”

The blonde looked over at him, his head cocked slightly to the side. He wasn’t sure what Ruki meant, or why he was even asking such a silly thing. He opened his mouth to answer, but the words were caught in his throat. His lips pressed together and his eyes locked with his lover’s.

“I…”

It seemed like such a simple question, one that would be easily answered. Yet, at the same time, it was so very complex. He sat back and chewed at his lip, Ruki’s eyes still set on him.

He could always just give the easy answer, which was simply because. At times, there was no reason why, it just was. A fact that couldn’t be questioned. But other times, he could pick out all the little details, quarks, habits, attributes, the small things that made Ruki so easy to love.

Just yesterday, at practice, he had noticed Ruki studying sheet music, his brows furrowed, full lips formed into a perfect little pout. Reita hadn’t been able to help but stare. The expressions he made were too adorable not to sit and appreciate them.

Then there was the way he looked when he was deep in thought. For example, when he was writing. He would sit on the couch or at his desk, pen pressed to his lips more often than gliding across the paper. There was always this look in his eyes, one that was pure beauty. When Ruki was inspired, nothing could compare to the aura radiating around him. There were times when, if you looked very hard, you could see tears forming in the corners of his eyes. The moments when his emotions flowed freely, through his writing and his expression, those were among the most cherished to Reita.

And, of course, Koron. Just the small moments between master and faithful pet, those were enough to make anyone smile. The two were made for each other and it was easy to see the love the creature had for his owner, and visa versa. When Ruki was playing with the Chihuahua, he was like a child again. Carefree and smiling. That smile, so fucking perfect. It always got Reita, no matter what mood he was in.

Oh, and when Ruki performed. It was like he was a completely different person on stage, but Reita didn’t mind. Not a bit. He took every chance he could to sneak glances at the vocalist, loving every move he made. The moments when Ruki was just having fun, the moments when he was pleasing the crowd [yes, those moments], and the moments when Ruki put everything he had into the song, letting his emotions completely take over. Though he would never admit to it, when Ruki broke down, his own eyes misted up. There had been times when he had wanted nothing more than to run to him and wrap his arms around him, help him forget the pain he was feeling. But he knew that the pain had its purpose, and even if Ruki was crying, tears flowing freely, he would be alright. It was just part of his process on stage.

Of course, there were other moments when Reita found it hard to look at him without blushing, or even letting his mind wander to places that were quite distracting [those moments]. The way Ruki moved his hips sometimes, or the way his lips curled, it sent shivers through Reita’s body. There had been times that he hadn’t been able to resist, and as soon as they were off stage, he took Ruki away, locking them in some dark room to play out the fantasies imagined on stage.

Ruki nudged him and he realized he had been unknowingly chewing on his lip, his face burning at the images playing out in his head.

“Well?”

Reita let out a small sigh and smiled at him. His eyes were wide and his lips in that perfect little pout. Reita chuckled and shook his head.

“I love you because you are you. Every little thing that you are, it only gives me more reason to love you.”

Ruki’s eyes narrowed and he pursed his lips.

“That’s it?”

“That’s it. In my eyes, you are flawless. Absolutely perfect. I can’t help but love you. There’s no reason why I wouldn’t love you.”

A sigh. Another pout. Another chuckle from Reita. A kiss. A smile. A giggle. Another sigh.

To Reita, this was love. It needed no definition, no reason. It just was. And it was perfection.
