past: "you shout and no one seems to hear."
present: "you're coming through in stereo, stereo sound"
past: "In the depths of winter, I found in me an invincible summer"
present (paraphrase): "It is better to be in love with the changing of seasons, rather than desperately in love with summer."
past: "when I hear the word 'culture,' I reach for my gun"
present: "when I hear the word 'religion,' I reach for my gun"
(I guess it's a different kind of intolerance, which is still bad, as intolerance is intolerance, but it has shifted)
past: "you've got to be trusted by the people that you lie to, so that when they turn their backs on you, you get the chance to put the knife in"
present: "we hold hands to show we don't have to do this alone"
Of course, most of these are false dichotomies. And the last two may not even truly be that analogous.
Today was a pretty great day. There were bits of frustration, but nothing like in the past. As usual, my ability to ramble on endlessly continues. I've still got to work on the first 2, actually. Pedantic pontification is still an issue. But I am coming to terms with it, or at least making progress toward balance.
A lot of today's conversations hinged on the concept of balance. Symmetry is certainly important and a good part to hone. Yet, at the same token, it can breed some complacency. Discord, dissonance, postmodernism, are all good reminders that the world is not always united, melodic, or modern.
There needn't be any neat and tidy endings, because life is not neat and tidy --at least not until ideological blinders are used, and even then, you're only fooling yourself.
There are so many minor notes to be hit, and so many chords to envision. I smell success; I see harmony. But what can be seen isn't all that can be felt, even if that was the climax, the end of the beginning. And if there is an end (which there isn't) it just loops back to the beginning, to that heart beat, to that One Beat.
