Riku has already come a long way since I brought her home. She still doesn't talk, but she's much more interactive with people than she used to be. Yesterday, in fact, she actually took initiative to interact with one of my clients...or rather, my client's child. The lady had come in with her infant son for a fitting. The boy slept well at first

Although I do know a few people that owe me favors...hmmmm.

Unless of course you are hinting that I should come and get yet another new wardrobe for my fox. I know winter is approaching but I was hoping to put off getting him fitted for clothes for a couple more months.

I was, at least, not intending to hint at that. But I will never tell a client I don't want them to come. However, if you do decide it's time for new clothes, as long as Kamio-san hasn't grown too much since your last visit, I should be able to save him the trouble of being measured and use the set of numbers I already have.

Art would also be a challenging pursuit while being a good outlet for thoughts and feelings if you're concerned about her quietness.
I think we can manage another month or two unless the weather suddenly takes a dip. I know at the very least he'll need a new coat soon. And he'll be very pleased if you don't need to redo all his measurements again. I don't know what he has against standing still for a few minutes.

The art I could teach her myself, if she wants to learn. At least the basics, anyway, and how to draw people. As for her quietness...I'm not concerned, much. I've met people who cannot speak and function quite well in society. What does worry me, in Riku's case, is not that she cannot speak, but that she seems to choose not to. And I have no idea why.
I can begin working on a coat for him right away, then, unless you'd like to come by and look through the fabrics again. And I most likely won't need to measure him. On average, people don't seem to grow that much in a few months. If his current clothes are looking a bit small, I can always make the new things just a little bit longer, and if necessary, just do alterations if I went too long.

I suppose as a tailor you would need to have a good eye for drawing the human figure and draping it with clothes. I have no doubt you're more than capable with instructing a beginner.
I don't mean to pry, but she is an adopted daughter, right? Perhaps her other parents didn't treat her kindly and she learned the horrible lesson of children are seen and not heard and just needs some more time to break through it.
I wouldn't mind coming by to look at some fabrics and a couple styles you have in mind for the cut. I might end up getting two coats made, one for his daily outings and one for events.

I've always enjoyed sketching, especially people. Once I started sewing, my sketches expanded into clothing as well, but I've never used a medium beyond pencils and pastels for color. If she gets into paints, I'll have to find someone.
She is. She's enough like me that I wish she was my own, but unfortunately that's not the case. It also leads to the problem that I have no idea how her life was before I came into it.
I'll sketch a few things out, then, and select the fabrics I have in mind, and we can go from there when you come.
