I don't have any recipes right now... but tis Autumn and I am inspired to cook and bake more! Only the price of groceries has gone so high... I'm doing what I can about that.
Lately I've been foraging nuts... I'm not sure it's worth it. We'll have to see if I like the end product. Acorns have to be boiled in several changes of water to get the tannic acid out... lol, funny how we LIKE the tannic acid in tea.... but anyhow, after they come out of their adorable caps, I WHACK 'em open with my rolling pin *lol* then chop and boil them. The steam smells soooo gooooood... almost like baking bread! So far the taste of the nuts themselves is mild, with a pecan-ish bent.
Black walnuts fall from the trees in roundish green tennis ball-looking fruits which have to be peeled away. I'll have to wear rubber gloves for that, since black walnuts are a strong source of permanent dye. Then, after all that mess is taken care of? The walnuts themselves have to be cracked open with a hammer!!
I'm just really not sure this foraging thing is for me, lol....
On the other hand, there's purslane. It's growing like crazy in the sidewalks, lol... this weed just cannot be beat! BUT because it's growing along a busy street and is therefore covered in car exhaust (and absorbing it, more every day!), I chose not to forage it. Instead, I bought a purslane plant at the grocery store (they were selling it as a summer flower) and ate from that. It gave me a higher yield than my herbs and veggies did! Tastes like spinach cooked with lemon juice---and I looooove spinach with lemon juice! Purslane cooks down like any other green, except that stalks are a little crunchy like celery. I consider it my find of the year! *grin*
