My first 5K - health update

Feb 04, 2007 19:42

I ran my first 5K Saturday.  OK I walked/ran my first 5K yesterda.  Took me about 40 minutes.  I'm a beginner so I am ok, My time will decrease as I train.  Running is almost right up there with surfing.

I love the endorphins pumping around, give's me the 3 H's.  Running has turned out to be good for my weight loss, I am slowly inching along.  Something has clicked all of a sudden and I understand portions, and the type of food I need to be eating.  I understand how important excercise is for healthy weight loss. The key is to get your heart rate up to your recommended range.  People think because they get out there and walk for a bit is enough for weight loss, but really it's not.  Don't get me wrong it's great to get out there and do something.  Something is better than nothing, but you need to get your heart rate up in order to burn calories and lose weight.

I am doing cardio 4-5 times per week for over an hour each day.  I usually cross train with running, eliptycal trainor, and biking. I am weight training 3 times per week.  I am getting a glimpse of my muscles, specially triceps and biceps.  It's so exciting, I can't even tell you.

I am eating healthy organic foods.  I am trying to eat as much organic as possible.  It' s tough and expensive going completely organic, but it's worth it in the long run.

Only draw back from a healthy life style is all the Laundry from the excercising.  I usually wear 2 sports bras when I run (big breasted girl here) and 2 pants., compression shorts and regular shorts, multiply that by 6 times per week = a shit load of laundry.

Yesterday after running the 5K I got home had a healthy breakfast took a nap for an hour and headed to the gym for my personal training appt.  after that I went home washed my big hair, made dinner and went to the movies with my husband to watch "Messenger".  Not my type of movie, but I figure my husband got up at dawn to go with me to my first race.  The least I could do was go tot he movies with him.

He is so good to me, so supportive.  He was there at the start to cheer me on and was at the finish line when I finally got there.  It was nice to have him there.  Today I am working a 12 hour shift til 10, than I need to be in at work again at 7:30 am for a ten hour shift.  Luckily Mondays and Sundays are my days off from exercising.

health, running
