Distortion
Prologue
The view of the falling snow; the sound of a roaring car…
Blink.
The illumination of the moon oblivious to the lighted road…
Blink.
Darkness; screeching…
Blink.
The blurry sight of trickling blood; the deafening, uneven breathing…
Blink.
A white, yet dusty, ceiling…
A dream?
Yuu opened his eyes abruptly. All he can see was shades of black and grey-and a little bit of whiteness coming from outside the window-as his eyes were able to adjust themselves and travel around the room. His head felt heavy and his body felt weak, preventing him from being able to sit up straight. So he just didn’t exert any more effort and lied back down. He closed his eyes, letting the image from his dream play again and again just like how they used to a few years back. He was just getting used to being able to breathe once again; not feeling any chain binding him, not feeling any hand strangling him-even though none of them were there in the first place.
He placed his hand on his cheek, wishing that it was Kouyou’s hand there instead to calm him down-the way his hand will caress the pale flesh. Though the action was only done once ever since they met, it was something he longed the most.
“Are you okay?” said by a gentle whisper. Yuu’s heart raced for a bit, but knew he didn’t need to open his eyes to know who it was, as he only knew one person to be gentle and silent at every movement within the house.
“I’m fine, Shinya-san… Please go back to sleep.” came a quick, yet sincere reply. Yuu opened his eyes, only to find Shinya staring at him expressionlessly through the dim light. Yuu already felt where this is leading to. Despite the fact that Shinya didn’t talk that much at all, he knew that when he does, it would be wrong to push him away. Toshiya said so himself during the first week Yuu started to live with them. Neglecting Shinya will only lead him to push himself farther away from anyone else.
“I always wonder what you dream about.” Yuu found the strength to finally sit up, genuinely curious about what had urged him to say such a thing to him.
“Why would you think about that?” Yuu asked.
“Shinya?” called by a sleepy voice. Yuu and Shinya both turned to face the doorway, where it seemed like where the voice came from-Toshiya. Toshiya switched the room’s light on, finding Shinya sitting on the chair beside Yuu’s bed.
“What are you doing up? Come and let’s go back to sleep.” Shinya did as he was told and headed towards the doorway after giving a slight bow to Yuu. Toshiya bid Yuu goodnight before switching the lights off and wrapping an arm around Shinya’s thin waist-guiding him back to their bedroom. Yuu frowned slightly as he thought about Shinya’s expression before the lights were turned off…
Confusion?
“You’ve been sneaking out of bed a lot for the past few nights, Shinya. You know it’s not good for your health. Is there something bothering you?” Toshiya asked as he and Shinya slipped under the covers of their bed.
“Just having a hard time sleeping. But I’m fine, really. Nothing’s bothering me.” it almost seemed mechanical, how Shinya would always reply the same words every time his mind is preoccupied, especially towards Toshiya. Though he already got used to it, he can’t help but feel a tinge of pain as Shinya still kept a certain distance which he deems unnecessary after all the years they’ve been together, especially now that they are…
“You know you can tell me anything, right?” Toshiya hugged Shinya tightly, his chest pressing against Shinya’s back. Shinya sighed inaudibly, knowing that the matter at hand won’t be dropped any time soon. Sometimes, he can’t help but dislike being alone with Toshiya-because he takes that time to remove his mask, to make all his bright smiles and childish antics disappear-showing the Toshiya that only a handful of people knew existed.
“I’m tired.” Shinya muttered a little coldly. No doubt he was avoiding the question. Toshiya knew but just sighed in defeat.
“Very well. Good night.” Toshiya kissed Shinya’s cheek and turned to his other side.
Regret?
Shinya turned to Toshiya, tugging on the sleeve of his shirt while muttering an apology. Toshiya could never resist Shinya. He turned to Shinya and kissed him passionately, oblivious to the teardrop that slipped to his cheek.
Sadness?
From the balcony, a view so sublime-a wide garden; the flowers, trees and plants were all glowing under the stars, the moon reflecting on the pond’s water like a sharp blade. But despite of their noticeable beauty, none of them really captured Kouyou’s attention. His brown eyes were only set on the rusted black gate linked with the fences that bordered all of the things within his view, including the house he is in.
He was really tired-which was evident through his droopy eyes-but tried to endure it to the best of his ability. His effort, however, wasn’t really obvious by the way his head was leaning on the closed door behind him as he sat on the floor-his blonde hair slightly tousled, and his legs sprawled out unsightly.
Every night since he left…
Waiting…
Nothing…
Yuu, where are you?
Author's Notes:
I'm not satisfied! It's shorter than I wanted it to be! But it's just the prologue... and it's been months since I wrote something... I'll just do better next time!
