Okay, so for those of you who follow my antics and such... you may already know I sold my beautiful Macbook Pro because as much as I enjoyed having a powerful laptop that's built like a tank... I don't have the money to spare so I sold it. I made a grand, I paid some bills and I bought the iPad2. I gave my first generation iPad to Dawn.
But I need a computer to write, right? So I purchased an old 2004 iBook from eBay. They had detailed screen shots and it showed that the battery was only cycled 13 times, so it's practically new! I know... I know... an old car with low miles is still an old car.
I enjoyed using Windows 7 on my MBP because it ran very well. The only Windows OS I can install on this laptop is XP, via a Virtual Machine program. The iBook doesn't support trackpad scrolling, which was one of the best reasons to own a mac laptop. But it's all good.
I find it kinda' funny, really.
The specs of this machine are as follows: 1.07Ghz G4, 512mb DDR (PC2100), 60GB of HDD space (4200rpms), 12 inch screen running 1024x768.
The specs of the iPad2: 1ghz DUALCORE, 512mb DDR2 (Speed is faster than 800mhz cap seen on typical motherboard ram chips), up to 64gb of storage (flashchips, meaning instant access), 9.7 inch screen at 1024x768.
Plus the iPad2 is thinner than my cellphone and doesn't get hot. It has bluetooth. It has two cameras. It runs circles around the iBook. If Tiger or Leopard were coded to run on ARM cpu technology, the iPad could run those OSes better than the iBook, lol. So I'm going to be doing my writing on old technology and I just find that funny... similar specs from better technology (IE: Dualcore cpu and gpu, faster ram, etc) now runs on something a few milimeters thick compared to a 6 pound dinosaur. Ah the future... :)
