My friends in Atlanta have both Guitar Hero games for the PS2, and every time I visit, the game is played. I like the game; I'd put it on the top of the interactive rhythm game list:

1) Guitar Hero (1,2)
2) Donkey Konga (1 not 2)
3) Parappa tha Rapper
4) Dance Dance Revolution
5) Samba De Amigo
6) Karaoke Revolution
7) Duck Hunt

...but I don't like it so much that I enjoy being bad at it in front of people the one time I play it each season. At the same time, my sister loves the game and has credited it with redeeming more than one otherwise forgettable party she has gone to. At the same time as both of those, Guitar Hero 2 has the Trogdor song from homestarrunner.com as an unlockable track...and Rick Derringer's "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo," a song I really enjoy listening to for some reason.

SO.

A little over a month ago, I decided to preorder GH2 at my local Gamestop...and then I discovered I could bring in used movies and games and apply all my store credit from these trade-ins toward my Preorder for GH2.

Oh reeeeeeeeally, I thought, and vowed that I would pay only $2.00 for Guitar Hero 2 on the day it arrived in stores. Well, it was a long road, and I had to creatively apply 21 cents of my last trade-in to the store manager's personal Gift Card so I wouldn't go over, but finally, when the game came out yesterday, I took home the huge (odd-smelling) box and the following receipt:

Oh, I'm good. Man, I'm proud of my followthrough on that one. As it turns out, I would have paid full-price for this game (which I guess, in a sense, I did anyway), but I like the thought of having gotten rid of DVDs I didn't want/need/like and put those previously spent dollars to another, longer-term use.

I've unlocked up through the 7th tier of songs in Easy Mode (shut up, I'm practicing), and I just sat here typing this up as the credits played so I could unlock the XBox 360 Achievement for watching the full Credits.

Then I unlocked another Achievement by purposefully failing a song on Easy difficulty. The Achievement's title: "Long Road Ahead Award." Hilarious.

Also, playing "Who Was In My Room Last Night?" by Butthole Surfers is possibly the most rewarding musical experience I've ever had. It's stupid-fast, but it is WORTH it.
