I saw John Mayer last night and it was amazing.
It was at the Carling Academy in Brixton (which is a pretty dodgy area) and I'd queued up a couple of hours in advance so I was fourth from the barrier. Support act Jack McManus was pretty good as well. I've heard 'Bang on the Piano' by him and his band were really tight. They helped time pass quicker before it was Johnny boy's turn to come out.
But then he did at around 9ish and it was AMAZING.
He's just so fantastic and ridiculously sexy. It's so fun watching him though because you can really tell how much he loves making music. There were many guitar solos which could have been a bit self indulgent but even if they were no one really cares cause he's such a legend.
Took a few pictures! But my phone battery was dying so not thousands. *runs off to upload them*
The setlist was really good - old stuff mixed up with more recent stuff and a couple of bluesy numbers. I've actually got the setlist that they used on stage! I waited at the end (along with about 10 other people) for the roadies (sp?) to give the setlist out and eventually the bouncer told people to leave so I moved back but no one else did. Then the roady scrunched up the setlist and chucked it into the crowd and I was like (ahww, shit. I'm not going to get it.) but then it bounced off all the many outstretched hands, I reached out and it landed straight in my hand. I had my fist raised so it was the most smooth and triumphant pose ever. I clenched around it and was like 'YES!' and someone cheered right by me. It was the most amazing moment lol, I could stop smiling! *is still smiling*
For those of you who are interested, here is the setlist:
Intro -> Belief
I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You)
Bigger than my Body
Crossroads! (awesome!)
Slow Dancing In A Burning Room
Waiting On The World To Change
Mercy
Wheel
No Such Thing/Why Georgia (a medley)
Stitched Up (written by John and Herbie Hancock)
Gravity
Encore:
Daughters
Good Love Is On The Way
Say (I love this song a ridiculous amount)
Anyway, he was truly fantastic and once again confirmed how awesome/talented he is last night.
:)
P.S. His guitar faces are so funny. They range from really sexy orgasm faces to him grimacing and looking like he's in a lot of pain. Hee hee..
