My latest entry was sorta depressing so I want to go back to my usual happy self. And what can be more effective than the good old over the top fangirl entry? I’ve been promising a Kara DioGuardi pro-entry for months so here I go.
Aw. Well, you're welcome to ask me anything you want. I have her life story memorized, basically, and obviously I love to talk about her. And yeah, it's funny to watch the way she responds on Idol -- she definitely wants that applause, but at the same time, she seems to have no idea when she's losing her chance to get it.
The Entertainment Weekly website has these morning-after blogs where one of their writers who attended the live show gives a report on all the things you didn't see on TV. Apparently, there was one episode where a bunch of Kara's friends were in the audience, and she was totally thrilled when they all cheered for her, and then she dragged all the judges and Ryan Seacrest over to meet them.
Haha, "Three Stories" was a House episode title, yeah. (The best House episode, IMO!) My friend (the one who got the CD) and I are constantly having moments like that -- we make these guesses about who Kara is, and how she does things, and then two months later we read an article or see an interview where we find out we were completely right. (And I did study psychology, and I've come to all the same conclusions you have, so I don't think you missed much.) Actually, it's interesting that, this year, watching American Idol, you've come up with the same idea of her and her response to approval that my friend and I did three years ago, listening to Platinum Weird.
You can totally ask superficial things! I have no idea what she smells like, though. (But if I had to guess, I would say she smells like chocolate and talent.) I do remember that both Tiki and her dad were there with her, though, and I literally had to bite my lip and look away to stop myself from going, "OH MY GOD, THAT'S TIKI! OH MY GOD, THAT'S YOUR DAD!" And her hair was pretty. Obviously.
Nah, she just thought "girlboymusic" was mad cool. Which it is. Obviously she and I are destined to be together.
And actually, you got really close with comparing it to Portuguese. Her name translates to "watched by God" or "guarded by God" (it's "watch" as in "watching over," not "watch" as in "view") which is basically the same thing as "kept by God," I think.
You know, I was listening to one of her calls to her friend's radio show (which I found out on your Karafication, thank you very much) and she mentioned she is easy to read. I was like, "Bingo!". I guess that if you start caring about her, even like me being trillions miles away, you can start to get close to her. Maybe even closer than someone sitting next to her. I don't know if it makes sense (and this is possibly the corniest thing ever). However, if you care, you actually pay attention and realize those big signs coming out of her, even if they are unspoken or sometimes translated to music. What I'm trying to say is that maybe she is this open book but that you have to be willing to read, like you have been doing for years... And gosh, I will never listen to Pieces of me the same way... Who knew? ;-)
Anyway, do you know where I can get reliable Platinum weird lyrics? I'm not a native English speaker (as you probably noticed. I'm Brazilian, BTW) and it's hard to fully get everything. Right now, I have this personal question: do you know how old her fiancee's daughter is? And ask for an opinion: do you think that with this Idol visibility, is that a chance she will invest again on her singing career? She did have some very positive public feedback for Visions of love. Maybe that can be an incentive. Or maybe this is just my wishful thinking.
"I would say she smells like chocolate and talent." This is probably my favorite Kara related quote yet. I'll warn you I might use that in the future, ok? Crediting you, of course. I honestly would be more excited seeing Tiki than seeing her dad.
Concerning her last name, my mistake then was the translation to English. I actually got it right from Italian. I guess I'm a intuitive Italian speaker, after all.
I totally agree. If you pay any attention at all, she's fairly easy to figure out. Even from the Platinum Weird album alone, you get such a clear picture of who she is and what her issues are -- like, I think I knew just as much about her the first time I listened to that album as I do now, after hearing more of her music and reading all these interviews.
I don't think the PW lyrics are online anywhere, but I can totally type them up for you. Her fiance's daughter is 11 or 12 years old. And I don't think she will invest in her singing career -- she had a chance at it with PW and backed off then. Plus when I met her and asked if the PW album would ever come out, she told me she preferred being behind the scenes, and that being an artist was too stressful. And although people are constantly asking her to put songs out -- Mitch Allan has said he's trying to get her to release "Had It All," and Larry Flick asked her several times to release "Slow Down the Tempo" -- she's only ever put two songs up for sale on her MySpace, and she took one of them down almost immediately. So at this point, I feel like no matter how much it seems like she should release an album (or at least a few songs), she never will.
Haha. You're totally welcome to use that. Not only was I more excited seeing Tiki than seeing her dad, I was kind of more excited seeing Tiki than seeing her That dog is too damn cute.
