We have Corelle, which is non-breakable (unless you really smash it against something), and I don't think is Canada-only. Some of its patterns tend toward flowery, but not all of them, and they also have "accessories" - like matching glasses, and other kitchenware.

I am actually siding on the Corelle side, as I've had it before and it is pretty but nearly indestructible, but the pattern was a hideous pastel I hated and I got rid of it in a garage sale. (Again, someone gifted it to me and I never picked it out. Why does that keep happening to me?!)

PS: Not all floral designs are ugly, but the one on my good china (can't find it online) and the one on my old corelle (http://www.corelle.com/index.asp?pageId=61&pId=50) were. At least to ME.

Oh, WOW. that's hideous. Ours is pretty old, and not on the website, but its not offensive (despite the parents having picked it out). LOL. They definitely have some nice patterns there.

Have you been to Target? They have some cute stuff at reasonable prices. Sean eats off of some cute tin dinnerware I bought to coordinate with the ceramic stuff.

kate suggested Target too. Guess I know where I'm going next weekend! I like the idea of coordinating tin for Mal (Plastic gets wrecked horribly in the dishwasher.)

You should go to the Target website and look under dinnerware sets. There are tons of choices.

Target is pretty cheap.
