Have you ever killed someone’s dreams?
Maybe you didn’t do it intentionally. The wrong word at the wrong time, and you saw the light of inspiration die in their face before you could staunch the bleeding. Some things, once realized, cannot be denied (except perhaps by those who live by finding new ways to manufacture denial).
Or maybe you thought you were doing them a favor by telling them they didn’t have what it takes - or that the world doesn’t work that way, or any number of exceptions to their high-flown aspirations - to make such ambitions true. The result was the same: you killed something beautiful that you could not hope to recreate. You took something casually that meant everything to them.
Have you ever done such a thing to someone you loved?
“I’m sorry” will never be enough.
