I bought an electronic dictionary, but all your s sounds are t sounds. I know they are grouped as ds,ts zi si. In British English some teachers say only worry when writing. like in signiature. China does not have an alphabet system so I am using yours now. Unfortunately I have no teacher, I have to go to a Chinese church to help me but pronounciation is very different because it seems as though the focus in China was only on tones and not the actual words which have to go together.
PinYin is not good because one can not sound and spell in Chinese that is only for the Romanization words. Syllables are not in Chinese only Characters Syllables are for Romanization.
Why can't China and Taiwan stop fighting over this language to me it is a dialect of Cantonese. I can assure you now that I am reading I can see how much you are fighting. Mandarin was introduced into Asia to help foreigners to understand the people.
China's language style is oral so they speak they write. I am so frustrated if the people speak the language they cannot write the language, if write the language they can not speak the language.
Please combine Chinas PinYin and your Bopofomo and you will see what I mean. They are the same with a few exceptions, but China loses a great deal of sounds eg er the r is the intial and the e is the final how did they get a er sound. Their ong, ing, and ung are all the same sound. ung and ong are the same sound.
I have gone out and did my own field work and found Chinese pronounce differently just using Chines people in my community, they say it is accent but it is not it is pronunciation. North East pronounce just as the bopofomo.
I had to resort to learning your language on my own, plus develop my own alphabet tool and learn all 89 radicals from the kangxi to understand your language this is really bad. Infact you must know at least 89 radicals to be able to start reading and understanding Mandarin. I only memorized the most frequently used radicals. I dont even know if I am right because I am on my own, but I am reading some books without the alphabet just characters and my dictionary. Just as if I was reading a English book.
Even in the childrens book the tones were wrong and the wrong radicals were used.
Jenny all the teachers wanted me to memorize but I have been taught to understand and ask questions.
But I can assure you the whole chinese church is in shock even the friends I have made in the community because I am doing both written language at the same time.Laugh out loud. But my focus is traditional.
