So last night my friend Jen had a house warming party for her new place, which is just across the street from my work, so an easy walking distance from my own place. I had bought a bottle of white wine but decided it would look better smashed on the floor of my apartment.... *sigh* Which made me late.
But yes, Jen and her roomie Jess's place is great and since they have the top apartment they get use of the roof. Last night was great since it'd rained during the day by the time the sun set it was comfortably cool on the roof. We were a little worried that the cops might show up if we were too loud (as they are quite literally across the street as well) but the party was well behaved and some groups moved onto bar hopping around midnight.
I guess the incident that I'm going to comment on is that there was a cute American guy at the party. At one point there was this Russian girl who was talking to him and her roommate decided to introduce us. The 4 of us chatted and then the roommate took off to top of their drink. You keep talking, right? But as soon as the roommate was down to the stairs towards to the apartment the Russian girl (it's just cute guy, Russian girl and me at this point) takes this step that places her halfway covering halfway between me and the guy. She's also giving me this VERY unfriendly look and has stopped talking (she's just glaring at me now) which puts a definite chill on the conversation.
Uh..... I can take a hint, but next time why don't you just pee on his knee to make it a little more obvious? WTF?
If you're a halfway decent looking Caucasian guy not only do the local girls throw themselves willy-nilly at you (although you do have to watch out for the psychos) but the foreign girls do as well since the local guys aren't really interested in foreign women in general. There are always exceptions to the rule but... you know what I'm bitching about. Am I jealous? Yes.
Now some of you might be wondering, but Jenny you date white guys too. True. But it's not because of the outer packaging (although it helps some since I tend to put Asian guys into categories of dad and brother, honestly, how many have I grown up around?) but it's more of the mentality that comes with it. I don't think like someone who's grown up in Asia, not completely. There are some things that you adjust for, mostly family.
But yes! I did not like the "back off" vibe and the general attitude of the other girl. It was kind of like she was saying: "You're just here talking to him because you're another one of those Taiwanese girls that wants to sleep with a white guy." Did not like that. Am also kranky that when you're a single female at a party or a group the guys and a lot of the girls look at you almost as you were some sort of diseased predator on the prowl for a victim. Excuse me? Just because I'm single and LOOK Asian does not mean I'm one of those psycho 小姐.
It was still a good night, because I got to spend a lot of time with my friend Melody who's in town from Nanjing for 4 days and it improved much more once those two left. ^_^
Once again Jen has an awesome apartment. I am slightly jealous as I live in a shoebox. Meh. You get what you pay for though. ^_^
