The So-Called Missionary

Hey. So it's summer and things have been picking up the pace. My part-time job has become a part-time/full-time job. Dating is also another part-time/full-time job, but one I quite enjoy. ^_^ Heh.

So I dunno what it is or what's been going on recently. My only explanation is that the heat must be making people crazy. The yelling has not been helping and I admit the heat (and yelling) have made my temper shorter than ever.

Registration was about 2 weeks ago and in addition to the usual yelling parents of overseas Chinese kids I also had a WACKO missionary. I cap the adjective because not all missionaries are crazy, they're usually just overly..... enthusiastic. I tried really hard to put this kid in that category but I failed. He said he was a missionary but I am beginning to wonder if ANY church would send someone like him out to win over the.... *ahem* unbelievers. In his defense he's very young, just 19. Anyhoo, during registration he started talking to me about his mission. Some randomly and loosely quoted lines are:

"I walked past this temple and saw the red lanterns hanging out front like bloody balls filled with the blood of sinners. The smoke from the incense poured from the temple like smoke rising from the Gates of Hell. The pagan chanting gave me shivers as I prayed to God. I pray that God will deliver Taiwan and it's people to us, deliver them from the Hell where their ancestors are suffering."

Be amazed. I kept my temper. See. I'm learning.

Today he returns in a rage and demands to have another teacher, specifically a God-fearing teacher. Apparently his teacher mentioned that her mother's birthday was coming up and she was going to go to her mother's grave to make offerings and burn incense in the traditional ancestral worship fashion. He apparently flipped out in class and started yelling about how unacceptable and idiotic people in Taiwan are "Don't you CARE that you're ALL going to HELL?!" So he's down in the office making demands to change to a different teacher because he simply can't concentrate or learn under this 'unbeliever'....... I couldn't do much to calm him down, so he now has an appointment to talk to our director. (Hooray! As long as I don't have to deal with him.) Of course I imagine his teacher came downstairs to complain to the staff that this student was disrespecting her mom (which he probably was) and to discuss whether or not she could request to have him transferred out. I also imagine his classmates will be showing up tomorrow to make a similar request or at least sit down and talk with us.

He's been in class for 4 days.

Oy vey.
