So...watched about half of the live performance show on Thursday. I didn't get to see it all because I had a lot of stuff to do before going to bed hella-early because I had to get up hella-early (this 45 minute one-way commute to work really bites when I hafta be there at 7:15). I did get to see Hal perform with Wynonna. No, that's not true. The minute he started singing, I just kind of closed my eyes and melted into a puddle. He did a fabulous job with "I Wanna Know What Love Is." Was he Lou Graham? No. But he stayed true to the song while still making it very much his own.
I did watch all of the results show (some of it on mute). I knew after the third contestant who was going home, who was being shortlisted, and what order we'd see the contestants perform. It was kind of creepy. As for Hal - he owned "No One Else On Earth." He and Wynonna complimented each other perfectly, and they gave a stellar performance.
While I love listening to Hal sing - and love watching him woo the audience - that's not all that keeps me coming back to watch him on the show. Honestly, my esteem for him has risen even higher since I started watching Duets. He's not afraid to...do anything. Not afraid to give his all to the song and the performance, not afraid to comment back to the judges, and not afraid to make an ass of himself. As long as he's connecting and making people happy, then he's happy. And he's got the balls to be all 'I know I'm a dork - deal with it.' It's inspiring.
