I'll probably not read any more Tana French. Most of her writing was beautiful and descriptive. Personally, I found the level of profanity that the characters used absolutely shocking and distracting. Like many readers, I was not pleased by the unhappy and somewhat incomplete story ending. It's not all bad to take a likeable character and then make him destroy his life by the end of the book ... I guess. But it isn't what I like to read. I was not completely convinced that she was writing a male character either. He kept describing things, I thought, in a feminine voice. The present mystery was so easy to solve that I really think French did her readers a really bad turn by not solving the mystery from the past for us. At least for me, that was what kept me reading -- the promise that all would be revealed. Ah well. Worth the read, I think, but not worth repeating.
