Whee, late night drabbly-like mess!
Title: Deceptive by Nature

Everyone knew Cain Fury had a weakness for small animals, especially the ones who seemed to need the most help. Everyone, also, managed to find a way turn down the brunette’s attempts to be a one-man adoption agency. It was much like routine.
On this particular day, the kitten Cain found was scraggly and near death from hunger, but after cleaning it up, the kitten was quite adorable. He’d shoved the fluffy white and orange ball into anyone who spared him a glance, and all of them found their own excuses.
Lastly, he came upon the Elric brothers leaving Mustang’s office. Pleasantries were exchanged and small talk was made, but it was Alphonse who first noticed the squirming kitten in Cain’s arms.
“Where did you find him?” Al asked, breaking the idle conversation to squat slightly in front of Fury. He peered at the tiny pink nose that poked over Cain’s encompassing arms and reached out to rub behind the kitten’s ears, smiling. “It’s so cute.”
“He was outside in a box,” Fury started. “Actually, I was hoping maybe you could-”
Edward huffed, cutting off Cain’s statement, and tugged on Al’s coat. “No, we can’t take it. Sorry.”
Al looked up at Ed, sticking his lip out in his best pout. “Oh come on, nii-san! Just look at it, it needs us!”
Both Elrics stared at each other for a long moment, Al’s expression one of pleading and Ed’s expression that was rapidly fading into reluctant agreement. Cain pushed up his glasses as he watched the two brothers, a satisfied smile on his face. It was always a losing battle; Edward versus Alphonse and the kittens had a very predictable outcome.
“Okay, fine.” Ed said, somewhat indignant about the whole turnabout of events.
Al stood and leaned over to bestow a light kiss to Ed’s forehead. “Thank you!”
Ed only muttered under his breath, his arms outstretched and ready to receive the kitten. Once in his possession, Edward held the kitten near his face and it mewled contentedly and stretched to nuzzle his nose. “…Maybe it is kind of cute.”
Cain then dug around in his pocket, pulling out a slip of paper. “Here’s what you’ll need to take care of it; I put it all together for you.”
Edward was struck with a realization. “You planned this, didn’t you, Fury?!”
Alphonse could only laugh.
