Sam’s memories of Jessica are like a spectre that won’t leave, no matter how many times he shoots it with rock salt. It’s not that Sam wants to forget her - no, never that - but the image of her, lean body and pale skin plastered to the ceiling and engulfed in glames, Sam would give anything to dull the sharpness of those memories.
Sam has to hand it to Dean, though; Dean tries to help, tries his best to be comforting, but there is a Jessica-sized hole that Dean can’t possibly fill. Dean’s hands are calloused where Jessica’s were soft; Dean’s lips are fuller than Jess’; Dean just doesn’t compare, can’t compare.
Sam just has to hold out and hope that one day, the ache won’t be so great.
That maybe, one day, he won’t see Jessica’s face staring back at him in every shop window.
