I've actually been reading this month, somehow, in spite of the election crazy.
Atonement was so much better on the reread than the initial read. I'm not sure if it's because my sensibilities as a reader have changed, or because I've read more of his work, or what, but I liked it much more this time through. I always liked the style and language, I just didn't quite feel the ending as much. At some point I really have to get around to going to see this.
Speaking of style and language, I'm currently digging into The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco, and it's amazing. I read Foucault's Pendulum the other year, and had forgotten how dense and rich his stuff is, even in translation. He's a semiotics professor, so it's slow thoughtful reading with a lot packed into a little, but mmmm, satisfying. Not that the book is little by any means.
Also, how had I gone so long without ever actually reading The Wonderful Wizard of Oz? So fun! Now I really want to watch the movie again.
