Woke up today and went out to ride Mark, who did let me catch him pretty easily, though he made me cross the creek to do it, and looked pretty damn smug about it. Allie was just getting back from a long walk on a slightly lame Phinny, and told me that she'd figured out how to get out into the big area with the powerlines. So out Mark and I went. He's so whatever about plodding around between trees and branches and things, and could've cared less about the redneck land of rusted out washing machines etc that we passed. But no way in hell was he going down the Big Muddy Hill. Wasn't going to happen. But we did see a fox bouncing through the grass, and had a nice gallop coming back up one of the other hills. Then we came back in and I fed Mark some of the treats Allie'd brought out to celebrate he and Phinny's birthday. And also for the new CANTER horse we got in yesterday, who's a sweet boy, and also got some birthday treats.
Then since I got home early, I headed over to Border's to spend my Christmas gift card. Will in the World, which I've been wanting to read since I saw it mentioned on last year's NYTimes Notables list, is finally out in paperback, so I picked that up, along with Jane Austen's Persuasion, because I need to get back on the classics track. There's now a rather substantial pile of books on my desk to wade through. However, I've got no movies to watch tonight, and there's no Simpsons/Family Guy/American Dad on Fox, so I guess I'll dive right into that reading.
