(OOC: If you want to be a part of this away mission, please read the whole post including OOC comments at the end for all information, captains orders, etc.)Kirk stared down at the ice planet on the forward view screen unhappily. He didn't have the best relationships with ice planets, and the idea of going down to this one had him less than pleased

So he kept moving, almost running towards the entrance of the cave. Had to keep up the heat in his body or, despite his mind telling him logically it was impossible, he'd freeze in place. There might have even been a little prayer in his heart.
He was worried about his crew that was on the planet with them, but separated out. They had to be safe, had to make it home. If what Spock knew was right, the children of the creature were out there, hunting down his crewman. The mother could come home any minute to the pile of bones they were tucked away under...
When he scrambled to the entrance, his eyes went wide when he didn't see swirling snow and screaming wind. The wind was lighter, the snow less violent. Jim forced himself to climb up the rocks, grabbing through glove and cold numb fingers and pulling himself up by sheer force of will, until he flopped down on the endless snow outside.
He rolled onto his back and pulled out his communicator. "KIRK TO ENTERPRISE!" Come on, pick up, pick UP...

"This is Enterprise, Captain Kirk -- Jim, what's going on?" The strain of the past few hours bled through just a little, though she tried to keep her tone as professional as always.

Nyota let out a sigh of relief, her eyes closing for a brief moment as that last message went out. She commed George, a short text message simply saying we've got them.

Just ran as hard as he could, feeling the cold bite into his lungs until he had no air left in them. He actually slipped as he got close to the silver-pocket of warmth in the bones, slamming into one with a cry as it hurt. He winced as his body throbbed with it. "BONES! SPOCK! GET DRESSED NOW!"

He didn't ask questions but they were there--Are you all right, Jim?--as he began to pull on his clothes as quickly as possible. He shivered, as he pulled on his trousers, shivered as he tugged on the multiple tops (undershirt, command shirt, both layers of overcoats), and shivered again as he pulled on his hat to cover his ears.
Leonard was dressed, too, and he internally mourned this fact. At least it would keep him warm for later.

They grabbed what they could and all headed back out, following Jim.

They were spread out, in groups. He opened the comm link to the bridge."First group materializing." First on board was a group of three men, security by the looks of it. "Welcome back," he called out, recognizing Pierce and Tyler. "Clear the pads, please."
The second group was more difficult, one of the lifeforms fading in and out. "Lock on the the second group," he called out, pressing buttons and watching carefully as they beamed on, four women (the cat-nurse looked very female, even in that old weather outfit) and someone on the floor, not moving. Fuck, he thought. This group got chewed up. "Second group on board, got injuries here."
Right on cue, medics arrived, and within a minute the injured man was whisked away to Sickbay, followed by the others on foot.
A few more seconds and he was able to make a solid lock, three lifeforms. "Beaming final three on board now," he reported, eyes glued to his computer screen until he saw the images of them reassembling into view on the pads.
He hit the communicator one more time. "Transporter room to bridge. We got 'em all," he called out, as Captain Kirk, First Officer Spock, and the CMO stared at each other for a second before running off the pads and out the door.

He came up onto the bridge panting, sweating from the change in temperature. He looked to Nyota with grateful eyes. "Starfleet. Now. We have to tell them what happened and to quarantine the planet."

"Right away," she replied, going to work without question. Enterprise to Starfleet Command, priority one.
The connection made, she turned to see Jim assume his usual place in the captains chair as she waited for a reply. The response, for once, was almost immediate, and her reply was brisk. "This is Lieutenant Uhura. Please stand by for Captain Kirk." She transferred the connection to him with a nod.

He looked to Nyota and nudged her gently. "Go see Spock, I'll be on this call for a while."

She ran to the turbolift, impatient to get to Sickbay.
