Not old, just tired

Keeping up with an 11-year-old for four or five hours is some serious hard work.

So I was up in Maryland this weekend for a wedding reception on akiko's side of the family. After maybe an hour of perfectly lovely reception (hey, they had strawberry daiquiris and cocktail shrimp, yum), I let myself get talked into hanging out with her youngest cousin. This admittedly wasn't terribly hard, in that I'd been kind of looking for a good excuse to go check out the jungle gym. The equipment wasn't that exciting, but we did discover that the line of trees behind it was laden with scores upon scores of small, hard, berries green... of which I think we ended up picking a couple thousand between the two of us and an additional uncle or two who fortunately have similar ideas to mine about "proper adult behavior". Epic wars of bombardment ensued. I think we only managed to hit a few totally uninvolved wedding guests who fortunately never quite figured out why little round things were falling from the sky.

After a brief pause for cake we moved on to whiffle-ball... man, *there's* some muscles I've hardly used in years. That lasted until about when I managed to scrape up my foot because loose-fitting sandals were really not made for this sort of thing, and by then it was pretty dark anyway. A bit of sitting around the fire pit, then stumbling back to the mother-in-law's house where we were sleeping and then the 6-hour drive home the next day... which really isn't helpful for a lot of sore muscles.

All said, an entertaining weekend. (But now I'm 3 days behind on LJ, oh noes.)

family, travel
