ZOMG WTF Ringtones

So, Konami recently made a deal with SonyBMG to license a bunch of their music for all kinds of digital distribution. Good good, I'm in favor of more distribution options - makes me more likely to get more of my media, you know, legally. They're on iTunes which is nice and convenient for me, though it's a pity they're not on the label that recently started offering non-DRM iTunes sales.

So anyway, I went to Konami's website out of sheer curiosity to see what all the options are. Out of *morbid* curiosity I clicked through on the ringtones option. $1.99 per single ringtone? Dear lord. The full length version of the exact same track on iTunes is 99 cents. Non-DRM tracks would be $1.30, if they existed. This confirms my stance that the most important feature of a cell phone is the ability to transfer my own damn files onto it myself, thank you very much. But man, it's no wonder the ringtone sector rakes in obscene profits, if most people are perfectly happy to pony up a 100%+ premium for the format.

Oh, and it gets better! Single wallpapers are also $2. For like 200x170 pixels! Insanity.

dumbness, product
