Woo, adventure.

Went out biking again to check out the new bulldozing-the-nearby-forest developments. They've been busy. A cut just a block away from my house now connects through the the huge development project area that lets out farther south on both 86 and Old 86. Aside from the fact that losing forest kind of sucks in principle, it's nice to be able to get farther without biking on 2-lane 55mph highways. (Eventually, when there's roads, I'll even be able to get places reasonably quickly; right now I'm using muddy bulldozer tracks, which is slow going, but good exercise.)

Did I mention the sizable nearby swamp I found on a previous expedition? With a little forest bush-whacking, I managed to find the other side of it. Pretty. Found a 2-foot waterfall and lot of birds. Also nearby I found what seemed to be a decades-old earthen-works of indeterminate origin and purpose. Curious. If I had a lightweight digital camera, I might take pictures of these things. But I don't.

Finally, I managed to take a new long muddy path being constructed for a new sewer-line, which turned out to once again dead-end at the creek. I knew exactly where I was, and if I'd had just 5 seconds of "Levitate Bike" I'd have been back home 20 minutes earlier. Despite the presence of plenty of tempting logs I could probably get myself across on, I couldn't find any way that looked like it'd give me a more than 50% chance of getting my bike across without both it and myself ending up in three feet of water. Wouldn't be pleasant with the temperature probably 55-ish and dropping as the sun sets. So back the long way for me. Ah well, I was out here for exercise anyway.
