Just went biking for over 15 miles, according to the gmap pedometer:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4096292 That seems to be about the limit of my endurance, at least coupled with the elevation changes. By the end my thighs were pretty much refusing to go uphill on gravel.
Out of curiosity I tried turning on the calorie counter on the pedometer site, and after asking my weight it reported that I burned over 1600 calories. Can that possibly be right? I probably eat less than that some days...
Made it to the back-side of the Eno River State Park region, which was my goal. Unfortunately, I discovered the back side kind of sucks - nothing there but really overgrown service roads, and the route to get there wasn't very exciting either. Gmaps tells me getting to where the actual trailheads are on the other side of the park is 9.5 miles one-way, and I don't see any shortcuts, so that's kind of a bummer. Might have to put my bike in the car and schlep over there someday.
One neat thing was on the way home I saw probably the biggest turtle I've ever seen outside a zoo - it was some kind of river turtle in a creek going under highway 10, and it looked like it was nearly two feet long.
