In which I fail at exercising restraint.

*deep breath* Okay, so, I was just browsing around fabric sites (stupid me), minding my own business, when I came upon some 45" French blue herringbone silk suiting for $5.58/yard. There were 19 yards left. What was I supposed to do, resist that? (Well, ideally, yes, but that's beside the point...) Now, you must understand that when it comes to silk on sale for under $8/yard, I have all the self-control of a stunned magpie (I can't remember where I ran across that phrase, but it's so true... *shamefaced*). Also, blue is my favorite color, and I happen to look best in soft blues. So, naturally, my first act, after squeaking in a highly undignified manner and staring and drooling for a couple of minutes, was to check my bank account. Fortunately, I've already paid rent for the month, though I've not yet bought my books (a check of the bookstore website tells me that it should be at most ~$290), and my bank account is as healthy as it ever is these days. Seeing as I spent most of the month at home and got reimbursed for all the groceries I bought for the family, I haven't spent much this month. Also, no need to save for Estrella, since I'm not going after all. So, yeah, I had enough. The entire amount would have cost just over $100, but even in stunned-magpie-mode I know that that would be stupid. "Only as much as I need," I told myself repeatedly as I pulled out "The Medieval Tailor's Assistant" and began calculating yardage for a cotehardie and converting centimeters to inches. Estimating ~3.5 yards for the panels, ~.5 yards for the mitten-cuff sleeves I want, plus .5 yards "just to be sure I have enough," I ordered 4.5 yards. Total, including shipping: $32.06. For 100% silk. I have 30 days to return it if I don't like it, shipping paid by them. If I did something stupid, it's reversible. *lets out breath*

Right. And on that note, bedtime.
