~Eight~

A week had gone by like this, with them eating breakfast together, escorting Seunghyun to work, going out to eat and coming home. The only difference was that Jiyong no longer wanted to play video games or watch movies with the other two after returning home. Instead he would go straight up to his room and stay there until the next morning. It didn't bother Seunghyun too much since he had been avoiding the other anyway, not standing too close to him, not making eye-contact, not even a word. Honestly, he felt bad for losing control of himself that time; he didn't mean to almost kiss Jiyong. Jiyong that was taken by Miku.

The whole week went by smoothly for the other two aside from the fact that Jiyong had basically gone into hiding. Seunghyun still felt the pain in his heart from the fact that he would probably never have him. It still hurt to see the two blondes together, the way they talked, touched, and obviously leaned on each other for support. It made his heart ache in the worst of ways. It was then that the realization actually hit him.

He realized that he was in love.

Sure he had known that he liked the other but he denied the possibility that it could actually be love. How could he have been so stupid? It's obvious that such feelings are stronger than simple liking. The way that he had thought about the other as if he were a girl, and the things he thought about when the other was around were far from anything innocent. He just didn’t want to admit it. He had even wanted to give himself time to think all of this over, sort out all the jumbled thoughts in his head and try to understand what the younger was making him feel. He didn’t even need to do that since it had only taken him full-circle back to where he was before, in love with Kwon Jiyong. Maybe he had hoped that by giving himself time he would realize that he didn’t really love the other and everything would have been easier for him, but it wasn’t the case. Now he felt like a fool for denying something that had been so obvious from the very beginning.

Love at first sight was never something that he had really believed in. In the past he had always dated the pretty, popular girls who stuck to him because it was the normal thing for a guy to do. He was considered very attractive and the girls stuck to him like glue to the point where it almost disgusted him. While he had never even thought about the possibility of being with guys since this was Korea and such things were considered “disgusting”, but the more he thought about it the more he saw that he had probably been gay all along. He didn’t like the way that sounded. But knowing it and accepting such a thing was better than being in denial.

He ignored Miku as well. For the most part at least. He couldn’t bring himself to talk to the other man when he was the one that was responsible for his heartache since he was the one that stole his Jiyong. The thing that saddened him the most was that he had never even had Jiyong to himself because the other had probably been Miku’s all along. All he knew was that for the brief moment that he had held the other he felt whole in a way that he had never been and he knew that one taste of what he felt then would never be enough. He wanted more of that feeling and whatever else could come with it.

Now there was nothing that he could do about that because the other was not his and would probably never be, that feeling alone was crushing to Seunghyun’s self esteem. Everything about Jiyong was enticing, from his eyes to the way that he walked and Seunghyun would be lying if he said that there was anyone who he thought was more attractive than the blonde man, because there wasn’t.

From the moment he had first seen Jiyong in the bar he knew that life would never be the same again, because after he had laid eyes on the blonde he had become addicted and no-one would ever compare. He had become used to the other man quickly and became used to his strange antics and boundless energy. Just being around him made Seunghyun feel like a part of that energy, it made him want to talk to the other, sit with him, hold him and be at his disposal. It wasn't that Seunghyun liked to be controlled, but if Jiyong told him to jump from a building he had no doubt that he would do it, he was a leader that Seunghyun would follow to the ends of the earth, someone who he'd protect no matter what. And that thought stunned him the most. He never even knew all of the things that he'd be willing to do for the other and now he had thought about it all and didn't doubt it a single bit. He lay back as the magnitude of his love for the blonde man really hit him. And it would never be necessary.

He thought that he could ignore the short man forever and he probably would have if it wasn't for that day.

He had woken up on Saturday and basked in the knowledge that he had no work today and would get some time to rest as well as be able to avoid the other two residents of the house. He had stayed in his room that morning, half-asleep and trying to catch up on the slumber that he missed during the week. Seunghyun was proud of himself that he was able to skip out breakfast and therefore avoided the other two, even for a little while, that was until his stomach growled in protest because it had not gotten the same dose of delicious food as it had for the past week. Living here had an upside though, he was safe from those monsters for instance, in fact he hadn't seen one since the day that Jiyong saved him in front of the club. He shook his head at the feelings that memory brought. In this house there was also amazing food, even if it had been made by a person he disliked and a person he wished he disliked. The dark haired man thought that all of this would be easier if he disliked the blonde man or at least felt nothing towards him though he knew that was not the case.

Finally after about an hour or two he decided that he needed food to the point that he was willing to leave his room to get it. Figuring that everyone had left the kitchen by then, he made his way out of his room and down the curving staircase where he shuffled into the expensive kitchen. He looked at the stove and figured that he could make himself some food because from what he had seen before the refrigerator contained an enormous amount of groceries. Upon opening the door of the giant stainless steel fridge he saw that there was a plate covered with plastic wrap and set in the middle of the bottom shelf as if for him to see it. He had hoped that was the case though it might have just been wishful thinking. Unwrapping the plate he saw that it had what looked like a large mushroom omelet made with little bits of scallions and decorated with ketchup on top. The omelet was dumped in a frying pan and quickly warmed up before the tall man put the omelet back on his plate and put the pan in the sink.

Seunghyun took a bite of the omelet and was surprised when it exceeded his expectations of what an omelet should taste like. The eggs were light yet rich, the shitake mushrooms were soft and oily and the scallions were crisp. Of course this beat any other omelet he had ever eaten. Feeling satisfied and thankful to whoever made that delicious food he had gone back to his room.

On the way out of the kitchen he walked past the living room and the library and realizing that he had nothing better to do he walked into the small room filled with books to look for entertainment. After some searching he stumbled upon some books about vampires that were conveniently stuffed into the corner of one of the shelves and when curiosity got the better of him he decided to take a look. The first book was a gray hardcover with thin golden lines that made intricate patterns on the cover, flowers, spikes, and chains filled up most of the space. In the middle  was drawn a gargoyle with its mouth open wide to reveal a ghastly set of pointed teeth that jutted out like something from a horror movie and looked like they would tear into the flesh of an unsuspecting victim with ease. Opening the cover and flipping through a few aged-looking pages he came to the section that read "Introduction" in a gothic font and began to read.

"Though one might not think it, vampires are everywhere among us. Hundreds of years of evolution and they've adapted to living alongside us, being able to masquerade as us. To us it is one of the shortest periods of time in which we have seen the evolutionary mechanism work so quickly to achieve such results. You're probably wondering if all of the people you know might be vampires but there is always a way to find out." He flipped to the next page which was headed "The Telltale Signs of a Vampiric Existence" and almost snorted at how corny it sounded before he began to read.

"The ability to look completely human is not possessed by every vampire, rather those of the elite class or those who have passed certain "coming of age" rituals. They all start out as bloodthirsty demons that stick out like a sore thumb and only those who have lived past two-hundred years and whose existence was deemed useful will be able to undergo the rituals. See list of vampiric rituals on page 64..." Seunghyun skipped down a few lines and kept reading. "Once one has gone through its rituals and survived they settle down and become more controlled, their thirst dimmed after they no longer have growth spurts and therefore are much harder to recognize. Though one can find them if they look hard enough. Extreme hunger will still cause a vampire to show its true nature. Elongation of the fangs as well as a dilation and color change of the pupils has been observed and some may even grow claws. Those who have not drunk blood from a living source in a long time will experience a slight thirst during which they appear sleepy and uncoordinated and often times unresponsive. If any more time passes one may fall into a coma or go on a rampage if further deprived. Those who show sign-"

The sound of someone clearing their throat interrupted Seunghyun's reading and he looked up to see Miku leaned against the doorway, tapping his foot.

"Is it interesting?" He raised an eyebrow at the book the other was reading.

Seunghyun just nodded, still looking at the other and wondering why he was here.

"I came here to tell you that Jiyong is gone today because he had something he needed to do and you can do whatever you want. I was also going to tell you that I left you some food in the fridge but seeing as it's gone you've already found it." Seunghyun nodded before turning back to the book, he opened up the page again and was about to start reading if it wasn't for the fact that he could still feel the other's gaze boring into the back of his skull.

"It's bothering you isn't it?" He could practically feel the other's smirk when he spoke. He almost choked on air when the words left the other's mouth but quickly covered it up.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Oh you do. I'm talking about Jiyong and I." Seunghyun thought that the other was enjoying himself by now and stayed on the floor, facing the bookshelf.

'Jiyong and I' those words sent a fresh wave of pain through the tall man's heart and he stayed facing the bookshelf in order to avoid showing his eyes that had tears pricking the corners of them, threatening to spill.

"Don't even bother lying, I could feel the jealousy and hurt rolling off you in clouds." The invisible smirk was back. "Did you forget that I could read minds?" The other almost giggled.

"So what? You're here to rub it in now?" Seunghyun figured that now was the time to man up and face this, even if that meant admitting that he loved Jiyong.

"No. Jiyong and I aren't together." The short man paused as if waiting for a response.

"So what are you then?" Seunghyun felt irritated that this man was toying with him.

The strawberry blonde sighed. "Jiyong is like a brother to me."

"Is that why he kissed you?" He didn't mean to explode and let it slip that he had looked in on the two.

Miku stopped and looked like he was trying to think of how to phrase his next words cautiously.

"Where we're from physical contact serves as an expression of affection and shows the strength of a bond between people. What might mean romance in any other culture merely signifies our ties and brotherly affection."

"Where on earth are you two from anyway?" Seunghyun realized that he now felt much more at ease with the other man when he knew that he was not with the object of his desires. It was as if a heavy weight was suddenly lifted from his chest.

The short man seemed to ignore his question. "I've known Jiyong for a long time. From the moment that he was brought into the containment chambers all those years ago, and right then I knew that I wanted to protect him because no one as beautiful as him should ever have to suffer through what he did. After that he became like a little brother to me and I took it upon myself to protect him in whatever way I could and comfort him. And for someone like me that was a strange thing to do, to care for someone else. He gave me a reason to live." Miku smiled sadly, the corners of his mouth curving up slightly while his eyes stayed looking at the ground as if he was seeing something in his mind.

Jiyong wasn't with Miku.

Seunghyun took it all in. All of the feeling of grief and loneliness were unnecessary, the week of not feeling empty was completely pointless. He never knew that he could feel as suddenly alive as he did in that moment. Because this meant that he stood a chance and now that his feelings were out in the open he was going to try his hardest to win him over. The return of his energy and determination had him wondering if Jiyong would have already been his if it was not for a misunderstanding and a week wasted moping. He was so busy rejoicing that he didn't notice that Miku stopped spacing out and was now looking at him with an amused expression, probably because of the vibes he could feel off the other.

"Take good care of Ji. He may look strong but he's just as emotional and unstable as you on the inside." Miku looked stern from his spot in the doorway yet happy to see that the other man really did love Jiyong.

"I will." Seunghyun didn't even need to think about it.

"Good." The corners of Miku's mouth turned up in a funny smile before he waved, uncrossed his legs and spun around and out the door. Seunghyun thought that he might not be that bad after all.

The rest of the day Seunghyun was on cloud nine; fidgety and giggly like a lovesick schoolgirl. He had lounged around pretending to be busy to keep his mind occupied so that he wouldn't explode from happiness but all he could think about was how Jiyong was going to be home soon and that he could face him with no more walls between the two of them and he could finally spend some time with the other and enjoy it.

He tried reading to pass the time but his mind seemed to have other ideas, such as thinking about the gorgeous blonde that was off somewhere doing something. He gave up and flopped back on his bed which bounced a bit from the impact of his back against it. In the end he decided to just lay down and rest for a bit since he probably wouldn’t be able to sleep when he was tingling with anticipation so much that relaxing even the tiniest bit seemed to be impossible. He had remembered that his phone was still with him and fished it out of his pants’ pocket and went through some of the songs he had on it before leaving it on one of Se7en’s songs and laying back down with his eyes closed and letting the words flow through his ears.

“Why don't you know me? You don't know anything… Why are you avoiding me?”

Seunghyun began to hum along to the song.

“Until the day I die, I will only love you.”

Soon he heard the front door slam and the sound of the bar being thrown across the door quickly followed. Oh, Jiyong’s home! Before he could even open the door the sound of the door to Jiyong’s room being closed with more force than necessary reached his ears. How did he get up the stairs that quickly and how come I didn’t hear it? Seunghyun shrugged and opened his door, practically skipping down the hall to the other’s door.

It was closed but Seunghyun still reached up and knocked. After not hearing anything for about a minute he tried again, only to get the same result. Eventually he decided to just open the door and walk in.  The moment he stepped into Jiyong’s room he saw that it was much bigger than he thought and that the slight glimpse he had gotten through the door-crack was nothing compared to the actual room. It was a long rectangular room with the giant bed up against one of the long walls by the headboard, across from the door, its large canopy casting dark shadows on the bed and the pillars. On the far right end of the room was a large window with thick velvety curtains draped on both sides of it, allowing the light to filter into the room and leave light spots on the floor that reached as far as the right side of the bed. The room was a mix of black, purple and white and was sparsely yet beautifully furnished. The only thing missing in the room was Jiyong himself and even after scanning through it twice more he still couldn’t see the blonde man anywhere he was about to give up when a sound like a choked sob and a muffled whine reached his ears. Curiosity got the better of him and he edged closer to the bed.

“Jiyong?”

Silence.

He walked a few more steps towards the bed where he looked over the edge and saw Jiyong laying on the floor, his gorgeous blonde hair hit by the light until it glowed like a halo around his head where it fell. His eyes were squeezed shut and a pained expression painted on his face, his hands were digging into his neck in a sickening way as if he was trying to strangle himself. The scene turned from beautiful to pure horrendous with the way that the blonde man was scratching at his neck, his body curling up onto his right side. He looked like he was in pain and the taller reached over and shook him.

“Ji!” The blonde man’s eyes snapped open and he jolted away from the other’s touch as if burned.

“S-stay away!” He screamed like he was in pain, his breathing erratic.

“I’m trying to help you…What’s wrong?” Seunghyun was far beyond worried by now.

“I said stay away!” Jiyong screamed, standing up and backing up into a corner, stumbling a little.

“What on earth is wrong with you?” The dark haired man questioned.

“D-don’t come any closer…” He put his arm in front of his face as if to cover his nose and mouth, squeezing his eyes shut once again. Seunghyun couldn’t take it anymore and walked up to the shorter male and shook him by the shoulders.

“Why don’t you tell me anything?!” His voice was strained as he tried to get the other to answer him and he felt the body under his hands shake and the swift movement of the other man’s arms caught him off guard as he was flung away from Jiyong and onto the floor. The breath was knocked out of him and he was taken by surprise by the other’s actions. He shook his head and looked up.

Jiyong was backed up as far as he could be against the wall, a horrified look on his face. But that wasn’t all that caught Seunghyun’s attention.

Sharp fangs showed from the other’s open mouth, raising themselves from the jaw that was hanging open. His normally chocolate brown eyes were now a dark auburn that seemed to pulse red at the edges with every breath he took.

The feral look in those eyes was unmistakably the same as it had been all those times, in all those dreams.

“J-Jiyong you’re…”
