Tedium and hilarity

What a weird-feeling weekend. Long holiday weekends are usually great, but this one wasn’t so hot for me. Saturday I woke up with a headache - this itself is odd, because I almost never wake up with a headache. It’s also very bad, because 95% of the time I can’t get rid of a headache without sleeping it off for 3+ hours. So Saturday I puttered around feeling headachey and odd, when what I wanted was to go out looking for volume 2 of Ergo Proxy with Chuck. I eventually popped an Advil and made dinner, then played Guitar Hero for the first time. Woo - it was fun.

On Sunday my head felt a lot better, though not 100%; still, we finally went out and scoured the chocolate shops for post-Valentine’s sales, looked for Ergo Proxy (no luck), bought some ankle weights, and hit the grocery as well as BJ’s.

Monday was the big day, though - Chuck was at work, and I CLEANED. I went through stacks of CDs, discarding scratched and caseless discs and putting playable-but-unwanted albums into the trade-in pile. I started a pile of books to be transferred into the big trunk, too, but couldn’t finish til Chuck was home to consult. Then I attacked the bathroom and kitchen with a full sweep, scrub, and mop. I even stuck the loose tiles in the bathroom on with some caulking. After getting the CDs off the floor in the living room, I did another sweep and mop, and even vacuumed the area rug. It felt pretty good to get things a little neater and tidier, but I still felt oddly unaccomplished. I guess cleaning is just like that; it’s not really a job to be completed once and for all, rather, it’s a temporary victory.

Entertainment Notes: LOLLLLLLZZZZZZ! A couple weeks back, we were in the grocery store and passed the uber-cheap bargain bin of DVDs, and what should we find but some “Anime Classics” DVD 3-pack! It had a Harlock Saga disc, and a couple of mecha-type flicks. The Harlock one wasn’t too bad, considering how old the dub was, but the other one I watched this weekend, “Defenders of Universe,” was HILARIOUSLY HORRIBLE. The credits all had American names in them, the animation was super-crappy, and the dub voices were often mismatched (6 out of the 8 men all seemed to have nasal teenage voices) and intermittently sounded like Americans trying to sound foreign. Since it’s actually a Korean animation, maybe there were some real-life accents in there, I don’t know. But SWEET BEJEEBUS, it was a laugh riot. Oddly, though, it wasn’t long enough to fill the disc playtime, so they tacked on an episode of some other mecha series, and then 2 episodes of the old “Superman” cartoon! OMGWTFLOL?! Probably the best thing I can say is that there was a spot that would make a great animated gif of the hero mecha punching right into an enemy cockpit and hitting the pilot - BOOM! I should attempt to create this.

Big Business: Tomorrow we have an experimental run of beer batter for Long John Silver's... at 9:30 PM! I get to come in late, but I have to stay late. I also have to take the visitors out to dinner. Margaret suggested a couple places, but I've never been to any of them! I'm not usually the social coordinator, so I might need to consult some people here on what to do. I'm getting nervous!

headache, cleaning, bad foreign animation
