tanjoubi omedetou.

The Jimusho wanted them apart. They wanted them to stay away from each other despite the fact that they’re good friends, best friends in fact. Jin didn’t like it nor did Kazuya. But when Jin was sent a memo that he is going to see Johnny in his office at the moment and the nest thing he knew is that a plane ticket to L.A. is in his hands. Of course, everyone is shocked to the extent that they had a screaming match, teary moments and cold shoulder treatments.

It was hard for Jin. Yet he tried to forget it but at nights everything flashed before his mind and tears would roll down his cheeks and he’d phone anyone in Japan. It doesn’t matter who it is as long as it gives him a clear answer on how Kazuya is doing.

It was hard for Kazuya too. He felt hurt and betrayed. So to nurse himself, he buried himself with work: drama, photo shoots and modeling stints. He did everything just so he can forget the hurt that throbs in his chest.

Jin was hurt when he came back. He was very hurt when the moment he set foot in Japan; Akanishi was what rolled out of Kazuya’s tongue. He wanted to cry at the moment. It was a good thing that Yamapi was hogging him for himself and he was able to disguise his misty eyes.

They’ve been civil ever since.

July 4th.

It’s Jin’s birthday. A very tired and brooding Akanishi Jin walked out of the Jimusho. He should be really happy since it’s his birthday and he had personally and kindly declined going out with the others earlier but a very eager Yamapi, Ryo and Yuu had mailed him constantly, called him non-stop and begged him on their knees that they hang out. After all, it is Saturday and a Saturday night should be spent out to be celebrated with a purpose.

So Jin found himself in a club, the one where JE boys and other celebrities and socialites are spotted clubbing and having a good time. It was dark in the club with the exception of the spinning strobe lights in the middle of the room and the dim lights placed by the walls.

There on the dance floor where he used to dominate, as carefree as the wind, were grinding bodies of young men and women, seemingly lost with the beat of the sound that come from the huge speakers, the room smelled of liquor and expensive perfumes and it was pulsating a youthful vibe.

Despite the temptations the room is trying to envelope Jin, he was lost in his own world. He sat in the empty black couch, darkness camouflaging him from prying eyes. A couple of empty glasses were on the table in front of him, a half empty tall glass with fancy colors was on his hand, cigarette smoke billowing from the ashtray.

Jin’s thoughts were about the past. Everything that is running in his mind is about his teenage years with Kamenashi Kazuya, his sukibito. Every time he thinks of Kazuya, a heavy feeling settles in his chest. It tugs his heat to no end making him want to try drowning the pain in drinks. But trying to numb the pain with alcohol only makes the pain stay. He can never escape the sorrow his heart is feeling.

He bade the rest of the boys’ goodbye despite them protesting that it’s still early, which is a fact. Soberly, he made his way home.

Jin sat in his living room in his rented apartment unit. There was nothing on except a random TV commercial which showed Kazuya advertising for Crunky. The darkness of the room contrasted with the blast of lights from the TV and somehow, it comforted him.

He was staring at TV even after the commercial was done. A lone tear rolled down his cheek unconsciously.

“Kazu. Its happy birthday to me…Wish you were here.”

Jin fell asleep on the couch and woke up to the sound of his red Docomo ringing. He groggily answered the phone, ignoring the id.

“Yeah?”

“Akanishi.” The voice on the other side made him open his eyes wide. Now, he’s finally woken up. “I…I just wanted to greet you a happy birthday…before the 4th ends. So…tanjoubi omedetou. I wish you had a good day. I…I hope you all the best. I hope you had a happy birthday now.”

Jin was listening. He was speechless throughout the entire time that Kazuya talked to him. If by just watching Kazuya’s commercial made him shed a single tear, Kazuya’s phone call made him cry a river.

Jin was sobbing on the other line. He made no move to stifle his cries. Kazuya could hear him clearly.

“A-Akanishi…”

“Yamete! Yamete…kudasai.” Jin sobbed. “Kazuya…p-please don’t call m-me that…”

“Akani…Jin.”

Jin took a deep breath, still crying. “I’m glad…I’m glad you called. Thank you for greeting me. It made me really happy.”

“Ah, sou ka.”

A loud thump was heard outside Jin’s door. He sat up from the couch, eyes aimed at the door. He stood up and walked straight to the door and he heard Kazu curse on the other line. Jin peeked from the eyehole and check out the corridor and was surprised at what he saw.

Kazuya was standing outside of Jin’s apartment. His white Docomo tucked between the crook of his neck. Jin suddenly opened the door surprising Kazuya who looked up at him with a dumb expression on his face.

Still on the phone Kazuya tried to explain to Jin why he was here. “Uh, I’m delivering my present. Here.” Kazuya said through the phone as he handed Jin the gift bag.

Jin closed his phone and tucked it away in his pocket. He reached for Kazuya’s gift. “You didn’t need to bother. You’re greeting was enough.”

“I wanted to. And it’s not a bother.”

“Why?”

“Eh?”

“Why…you. Why are you here? Why are you doing this?” Jin asked. The confused emotions he hid surfaced.

“I-I had the sudden urge. I don’t know why…but I can leave if you want to after all I’m just delivering my gift and -” Kazuya’s rumbling was cut-off as a pair of soft lips descended upon his.

When they broke apart for air, Jin cupped Kazuya’s face and kissed His forehead. He then pilled Kazuya into his arms, nuzzling Kazuya’s hair.

“You don’t need to explain. I’m glad you’re here. This is the best birthday I ever had. You just made my wish come true.”

Kazuya smiled as he made his arms move to embrace Jin.

“I’m glad I made your wish come true.”
