your semimonthly dose of weird
So I sing sometimes at work. Usually melancholy songs -- Radiohead's "Lucky" is a common one. So the other day I had this exchange with the manager, Jose, when he caught me in the middle of the chorus. (Italics be translated from Spanish.)
Him: Are you rezando?
Me: Rezando? I don't know that word.
Him: You know, it's when the people at church...
Me: Oh, praying? *dismissively* Nahhhhh.
But then I stop and think about it for a minute. Often the same song, sung very heartfelt... I guess it could sound like it.
Me: You know what? Maybe I am. I dunno.
Prayer, at least the way I was raised with it, really isn't my thing... but I love singing, and I feel the most connected to $deity or however you choose to define that something-greater when it's just me and music...
So maybe I am praying. Who knows?
