Prompt 2: Stressed
Nino was tired but there was no way he was ready to go to bed. He was way too nervous. Tomorrow would be Tomoya’s first day of school and it seemed as if there was way too much to do until the morning. He grimaced as he stared down at the clothes he still needed to stitch in the labels for Tomoya’s name and there was no way that Tomoya was the only kid without perfect labels.
Nino sighed as he put the cloth back down when there was a sound coming from Tomoya’s room. The boy had been excited and it had been hard to put him to bed. Nino had been so happy when the boy finally fell asleep an hour later than his usual bedtime. Haru had joined Tomoya in his bed and Nino supposed that the dog wanted to go out now. He had told Tomoya to keep the door ajar so that Haru could get out and in whenever she wanted, but he supposed that that hadn’t happened.
At least he hoped that Tomoya was still asleep and it was just Haru that wanted out. He grimaced when his knees cracked as he stood and checked for the room. He opened the door to be greeted by Haru who darted out and rolled up on her cushion to fall asleep soon after. Nino rolled his eyes and checked on the little boy. A small smile on his face when he saw the blanket had been shrugged off and Tomoya was mumbling in his sleep.
He could tell that the boy was still very excited for tomorrow and shook his head with a chuckle. Nino pulled the blanket back over him and caressed his temple for a second, before slowly leaving again, getting back to the tasks he still had to do before tomorrow. Satoshi was still at work and Nino was not sure when the older would come back. Nobody really was, which was a bit worrisome.
They had asked for time off tomorrow and it had been granted originally, but then the late-night recording had come in between and Satoshi had to leave for that. Nino rolled his eyes at the disregard of their agency for a little boy that would have his first day at school tomorrow and had to worry if his dad would be there for it. Yes, Nino was still home, and yes, he would go for sure but it was different. Nino knew that.
Satoshi was still Tomoya’s father and Nino was just the adopted parent, and that was not even official because there was no way that Satoshi and he could make anything about their relationship official easily. Even if the agency accepted them and they were semi-official as a couple. Marriage was not possible for them and adopting Tomoya even less.
Nino sewed the labels carefully, wondering if he did the right thing. It was a bit wobbly but made with love. He could have brought everything with him to the agency and asked some of the costume designers or other staff to do it for him, someone more proficient in sewing and with better writing, but Nino had been stubborn. He had wanted to do everything on his own. Together with Satoshi and Tomoya of course.
They had gone shopping in their very sparse free time, trying their best to stay hidden, but also giving Tomoya all the time he needed to decide which things he wanted.
Nino and Satoshi had gone on their own to get some presents for their boy for the big day, and Nino was looking forward to the small get-together with their friends and families in the afternoon. He was nervous about that as well, and a bit stressed. There had been plans to make about what meals they wanted to serve and what cake Tomoya wanted and Nino hoped fervently that they would make it in time to pick everything up before the rest came. He grimaced and rubbed his face as the clock chimed midnight. Satoshi was still not back nor was there any notification that he was on his way and Nino feared that Satoshi would be stuck somewhere in nowhere if he would not finally able to go home.
Nino grimaced and folded the shirt he had finished. He shouldn’t forget that Satoshi would be driven home, he didn’t have to rely on trains today and that was good. He would be fine.
Nino rolled his eyes at his thoughts and then checked his list for tomorrow for the last time. He had finished everything for Tomoya, he had prepared breakfast for tomorrow - a traditional Japanese one with extras for a bento box for Tomoya - and put everything away. He should head to bed. He had to be up early to do the last things on their breakfast, and he was sure that Tomoya would for once wake up really early. He didn’t think that the boy would be like his father and slept until the last minute.
A last check on the boy and he smiled as he saw Tomoya hugging his favourite teddy bear, the one that Nino had gotten him so so early when he would never have thought to be so happy today and felt the stress that build up in him slowly go away. He closed his eyes and sighed deeply. He would call Jun tomorrow, he decided. Jun could pick up the cake and bring it with him when he came. Jun had already said that he would be early and if that was okay since his work ended at a strange time that was too early for their meet-up but too late for him to go back home and then be on time. He could bring the cake, and maybe Satoshi’s parents could pick up the ordered food.
First Nino had wanted to cook himself, but Satoshi had convinced him that it was just unnecessary extra stress. They had so many favourite restaurants that could handle it after all.
Nino hadn’t realised that he had stepped into the room again, until he was beside the bed, his fingers on the round cheeks of his son. He smiled warmly down at him, not believing how much he had grown since he had brought his life to chaos. He would never want to not have the boy in his life and he was thankful somehow now. The break-up and stress had been horrible, but he was so much more secure in their relationship afterwards and for nothing in the world would Nino give this up.
Nino had never thought of himself as a family man and now he was that and more. Nino jumped slightly when arms closed around him and he sighed as he leaned against the muscular body of his lover.
“Sorry my phone died,” Satoshi mumbled against his neck and Nino shrugged. It happened.
“You’re here now.”
“Can you believe that our little boy is almost grown up now?” Satoshi asked and Nino blinked in surprise at the wobbly tone in Satoshi’s voice.
“Almost… There is still a lot of time,” he said with a chuckle and moved around to trace Satoshi’s cheek. “Crybaby. Let me get you into bed before you wake up your son.”
“Our son,” Satoshi said and Nino rolled his eyes as he pushed him out of the room and closed the door with a click.
“Our son,” he agreed and kissed Satoshi’s lips. “Bed?”
“Mhm… I’ll join in a moment. Let me just clean up.”
“Okay,” Nino said with a frown and Satoshi smiled before kissing him again and leaving. Nino went to their bedroom, chuckling as he saw a small bouquet on his nightstand. He rolled his eyes as he read the small card “For the best Papa in the world”.
