Title: Hangover
The light shining into his face was too much even with his eyes closed. Satoshi groaned and rolled around to press his face against the cushions.
The darkness and the coolness were nice, he thought with a sigh as he tried his best to ignore his pounding head. He wanted to ignore the last 24 hours. He wanted to forget everything that happened and wanted to hide here forever. Satoshi would be happy if he had never faced the world again, living in this reality that he had hoped so hard would never happen.
Satoshi wanted to turn the time back so badly but that was not possible. And all of his tries to forget and numb the pain the evening before had brought him now the worst hangover he had ever experienced. He didn’t want to stand up, but his head was pounding and he felt awful like throwing up. He had no idea how late or early it was, but the light was already way too bright for it to be night.
Also, Satoshi was sure that he had fallen sleep in the early morning hours. Most of the night had been spent comforting his crying and anger at the world siblings. They were in their right but once they had all fallen to sleep hugging each other and their father in the living room he had carefully removed their bodies from his and stood, staring at his family, the tear-stroked cheeks of the smallest three, the white face of Sho and the absolute heartbroken face of their father and just left.
He had run out to clear his head and to be away, he just wanted to be away as far as possible as if the distance would make it all untrue. In the end, he had bought way too many beers than he cared to remember, drowning them mostly before he even arrived back home. Disgusted with himself for his reaction and for abandoning his family he had hidden in his room and fallen to sleep and that was where he had woken up now with a pounding head the well-deserved punishment for his reckless behaviour.
He woke up again when the door opened, not realising that he had fallen to sleep and cracked an eye open. The nausea was better than the first time. A smile crept on his face when soon after two tiny bodies climbed on top of him, hugging him tightly.
“Nii-chan,” Kazu whispered and he turned to hug the twins. “Are you mad at us?”
“Never,” Satoshi promised, hugging them more tightly when their arms wound up around his neck.
Soon after Masaki appeared and sat down beside them, carefully picking up Kazu who didn’t fight for once, but let himself be hugged by their slightly older brother. Sho was the next one who picked up Jun, telling them to let Satoshi be so that he could sit up when Sho handed out a glass of water and a pill. “Dad says he brings breakfast in a bit. But that you should take this first.”
“Thank you,” Satoshi whispered, taking the pill, smiling at Jun when the boy asked him if he had an ouchie.
They had breakfast together in his room just five minutes later when their father appeared with a big tray. The breakfast was a very silent affair, they all were down, the loss very clear in all their minds, but, Satoshi thought as he looked at them all, somehow it will be okay again.
