Character Jobs~Harry Potter Spoilers

Jul 26, 2007 07:40

Sorry to keep posting about Harry Potter but I caught the JK Rowling interview on Today and she gave some interesting tidbits that were not in the book that I thought people would be interested in. Of course this will probably be plastered all over the net soon but whatever.

*Plasters this in my lj*

I was kind of wondering if Harry would become an Auror because even though he'd wanted to originally, I actually thought he might settle down with a quieter job. However, I guess he couldn't resist. But, I think it's awesome Ron has that job as well because it's tiring how everyone in fandom underestimates his ability and... you can't be weak at magic to be an auror by any means.

And that's perfect for Hermione, now that the ministry isn't total crap. XD

As I edited above I always wanted Harry to be the DATDA professor. I think it would be a really fitting role for him and it would keep him in Hogwarts but well an Auror is cool too. I don't think Ron, Harry or Hermione could live peaceful lives for long. XD

Hermione probably whipped the ministry back in shape.

I kind of wanted him to do that as well. Now that Voldemort's curse on the job is broken, who better? But I love that he works with Ron. That just makes me happy.

Yeah, adventure is something hard to let go of.

RE: Hermione. That's exactly what I said in my lj. XD

I just found the transcript of the interview, Harry is actually the head of the auror department. :D

I love that Ron and Harry work together as well. Though in a sense Hermione still works with them too. It's like Law and Order of the Magic World. XD

I wonder what Ginny is doing? I'm holding out for Quidditch...

Oh and Luna travels the world (I didn't hear this part on the interview) that's very fitting for her too. Maybe she brings back strange plants for Neville's herbology class. XD

I'm so happy she told us what Luna was doing. I pretty much figured that was the case.

I'm glad she went back on Luna/Neville. I really do ship them. >> I know it's kind of become a 'well they're the two remaining characters' ship in the fandom, but I liked the pairing way back before that was the case- back before Harry had a pairing (well outside Cho).

Too bad about the Longbottoms though. :(

The only pairing I ever shipped in HP was Hermione/Ron but Neville/Luna would be really cute. I mean Harry/Luna would have been cute to me too since I am not a big fan of Harry/Ginny but Neville/Luna also makes a lot of sense to me.

It is really sad about Neville's parents but I think it is more realistic that way. I mean stuff like that usually can't be cured in real life either. I like the HP world because although it is magical, magic can't solve/cure everything.

I didn't expect the Longbottoms to recover either. I figure that if they haven't made progress by a whole fifteen years later (when we see them), they're not going to ever. Still, it's sad to think about. Neville's situation regarding his parents is almost more painful than Harry's.

Oh yeah I agree, both Neville and Harry's parents fought brave but I think Neville's parents fate is a lot worse than death. At least their son grew up to be someone who they could be proud of.

I agree with that. As far as parents, go Neville's got it worst. I think Harry's situation (growing up before Hogwarts) on a whole is only worse because Neville had someone who loved him that took care of him (even if she wasn't always able to appreciate his talent/was overprotective of him). Harry's upbringing was awful, to put it mildly.

Yeah, I always feel weird to like the two remaining people in odd groups (example: Lina/Gourry is my OTP in Slayers since day one, and I'm always scared I'd be judged for loving Zel/Amelia too). However, there are cases, such as this fandom, in which the "remaining ship" is extremely more interesting to me than the canon and/or obvious ones. That's how N/L is to me. I really disliked H/G and R/Hr in HBP (the latter I did like in DH), so in the end, the "spare ship" was the only non-married ship I was still into it -it helps that Luna has my top favorite character since OotP, and that Jo said the ship had icky cooties. Right now I'm in a happy rapture about them, but I'm suspecting it's because Neville skyrocketing in my list of favorites + Jo giving in about the fact there IS a fucking pull without writing them.

Neville was amazing in this book.

I had no Harry ship for the longest time. I was not opposed to any of them we see in the series, but I just was uninterested in shipping him. I do like Harry/Ginny a lot more now than I used to, but I'm a much bigger fan of the other pairings and have always been.

So yeah, I'm kind of afraid of people seeing my N/L love as just a place to pair the other primary DA members, and that's not the case at all. I fell hard for both Luna and Neville as characters in OotP, and just found something in their dynamic that I liked. I was a bit confused when she negated it, as most pairings she negates contradict some sort of canon.

I actually thought 'well who the hell else is she going to pair them with?' Then 'oh wait shitfuckdamn, does that mean one of them is going to die?'
