So I don't think I ever had a favorite Doctor. I think I rank 3, 4, and 11 very highly but I am really fond of all the Doctors in some way (of course some I have seen very little of).
But after watching Two it was like a wool was pulled over my eyes. I love Troughton's Doctor and I love his relationship with his companions. Like I said on Tumblr I have even made the effort to experience Troughton's lost serials. I think that is when I knew he became my favorite and the fact that for all the years I have been watching Doctor Who he is the first Doctor I bought DVDs for.
On another note it is fun to watch Troughton and see how much of Matt Smith's performance comes from the 2nd Doctor.
As for the companions, Jamie is definitely my undisputed favorite. I didn't think anyone could unseat Sarah Jane (who don't get me wrong I still love dearly) but I think he has. I love the double act he has with Patrick Troughton's doctor. Hines & Troughton had excellent rapport and it bleeds through in their performance. Jamie was one of the Doctor's most loyal companions. As he said in the "Faceless Ones" you will have to shoot me but I am not leaving the Doctor's side (I was listening to this while filing at work and I almost died from the feels). And lets not forget how the Doctor & Jamie are constantly clutching each other. XD
But even not counting Jamie, Two had a pretty strong group of companions.
First were Polly & Ben who came over from the 1st Doctor and were very much a representative of the 1960's. Polly comes off a bit stronger to me than Ben as she had a bit of spunk. I think Jamie joining the series pushed out Polly & Ben. It felt sort of like three was a crowd.
Then Victoria joined and like Jamie she was a historical figure. Victoria is not very popular because she is a screamer but I like her and the cute relationship she has with Jamie and the Doctor. Jamie was like a big brother to Victoria (although it seems obvious he liked her a bit more than that). And the Doctor was like a father figure to her after she lost her own father. The thing I like about Victoria is despite caring about Jamie & the Doctor, she was a reluctant adventurer. She didn't like being chased by monsters and always being in danger for her life. I can't exactly blame her for that and I love that she was honest.
Jamie was pretty devastated when Victoria left but we can again see how important the Doctor is to him because leaving the Doctor is not an option. He promised Ben & Polly that he would look after the Doctor and I think Jamie feels that the Doctor needs him and that no matter what his place is beside the Doctor. In the end he doesn't choose but is forced to leave the Doctor's side.
After Victoria came Zoe. Zoe is way more popular in the fandom then Victoria. Zoe also comes from a different time but this time the future. Zoe was also the first companion to be as smart as (and in some ways smarter than) the Doctor. I think Zoe was an excellent female role model as a lot of times her intelligence saves the day. But still Zoe wasn't a computer, she was a human who needed friendship & love which is what the Doctor & Jamie provided to her.
What I also like about Zoe is the BBC didn't try to recreate the Jamie/Doctor/Victoria unit. Zoe was much more capable than Victoria was. Victoria was from close to Jamie's own time and thus everything was new to her like him. Besides I think being a bit in love with Victoria I think he was so protective of her because she was a bit of a "lady".
Zoe though is radically different. Zoe teases and makes fun of Jamie all the time. So in a sense Zoe/Jamie also have a sibling relationship but not in the big brother protecting his little sister one that Jamie/Victoria had but more in that bickering teasing sibling way. Of course when it counts both Zoe & Jamie showed they loved each other.
